Default High-end stereo in near future

I am considering buying an upper-mid/high end music system within the next year. I am familiar with many of the big top brands such as Mcintosh, Martin Logan, B&W, Linn etc. Obviously very few stores carry these brands.

My main goal is to achieve a life-like sonic performance under $10,000. I am even considering quality used equipment.

My questions to you guys are, what brands to look for, speaker technology, subwoofer or not, power ratings, stereo or multichannel.

I have an extensive collection of music on my computer. I wouldn't really play mp3's obviously, but i have a good sound card on there, blu-ray drive and DVD-Audio capabilities. Would it make sense to invest in a high-end CD player? I am anticipating a good turntable, since there are quality recordings on vinyl out there.

I realize i've asked a lot of questions, but i would like to get any input from audiophiles out there.
