Default Marx Bros. Comedies

Are there Blu-ray sets or individual discs.

Are you pleased with the B/W transfers?

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't one Marx Bros. movie on BD yet. I'm a HUGE fan of them and have been hoping for over a year to hear news of some plan to bring them onto BD but that has yet to happen.

If you look at the lack of effort put into restoring their films onto DVD, I think it's safe to say that it'll be a while before we see them upgraded to Blu.

No Marx Brother in Blu yet. I am looking foward to them, as they are great comedies.

^Yeah---nothing but DVDs, as far as I know.

But I'll be happy to pick up Animal Crackers, Duck Soup, Monkey Business, The Cocoanuts, A Day at the Races, and A Night at the Opera, when and if...

And in "What Universal thinks is 'classic releases'" form--
Meaning, all of Image's old prints squoze into one box, with no supplements, commentary, or remastering, and a "bonus" disk consisting of exactly three Today-show segments.

Um...I think we'll be waiting a while for vintage Universal Blu's (leaving aside the Hitchcocks and Frankensteins).

Duck Soup, A Night at the Opera, Horsefeathers, The Coconuts. Work your way from left to right. (Duck Soup is the best IMO)

Always preferred Horsefeathers, m'self (and Chico's off-lyric mangling of "Everyone Says I Love You"), but a little taste of Soup for the Dead-head, in the meantime:

(In fact, with the virtual abolishment of Old Movies On TV, movie fans have been facing a growing real crisis of an entire generation that literally never has heard of the Marx Bros., Rob Zombie or not...Join the Film Literacy campaign, today!)

yes... i hate it when i know a younger person who saw what was a reference or homage to something and believes it to be something original. it just makes me sad. (it's not their fault, mind you. but it still makes me sad).

...sad to the point my friends have accused me of child abuse because, as far as my four year old son knows, it's 1950, movie-wise. the newest film he's seen (and he watches no tv - and has never played a video game - woo-hoo!) was yesterday's primo screening of the day the earth stood still on bd. he watched nothing until he was 2.5, when i started him on a one year diet of nothing but silent film. he didn't know anything and thought they were amazing. if he had seen one snippet of finding nemo in that time period, my little scheme would've crumbled like a house of cards.

anyway, he's seen all the marx brothers films (except love happy - *barf*). when he was three he knew more about keaton and chaplin than most adults. it's just a little experiment. when he could sit still for a feature length silent film at the age of 3 routinely, i was certainly impressed.

the first film he saw in a theater was stagecoach, at a retro house. he sat in my lap and only wavered in the final two minutes, when he quietly asked me if it was over. on the way home i explained to him the nature of the denouement...

coincidentally, i got this idea from a friend of mine who is about ten years younger. i was impressed with his knowledge of the marx brothers and i asked him how he got into them. he said his first memories involved he and his dad watching them over and over. i thought about this for several years, and then had a child. i took the idea to the nth degree and here we are.
