No question rock band 2. I just jumped on the "rhythm game" bandwagon last month so I am relatively new to it all. I've been playing rock band 2 for this past month and I love it. I went last night to my brother's place and someone bought his girlfriend guitar hero world tour and I set it up.
Compared to each , rock band 2 feels more serious in the peripherals. They feel and look more "professional" than the guitar hero accessories. I don't like the buttons on the guitar hero guitar but I do prefer the strum bar on it. THe drums are no comparison, they are so much better on rock band 2. They feel more stable and much easier to adjust and it all fits on one unit so very easy to move (You can't attach the drum pedal on the Guitar hero one) But it shouldn't be about accessory first , but music , and Rock band EASILY takes the cake. There are simply too many songs on rock band. You can purchase the track export ( 5$ on PSN) rent or borrow a copy of rock band and transfer all 50+ track from the original to play on rock band 2. When you purchase rock band 2 you are given a code for 20 free songs. Already on day one , you have the possibility of having over 150 songs. While there are songs I would like to have on rb2 that guitar hero has , rock band 2 easily wins. Good luck in your search and don't listen to people like the post above. I play both guitar and bass and I still enjoy playing rock band. |

Nice post, very helpful
![]() I don't know which one to get, I have always heard Guitar Hero has better music, My co-worker is buying World Tour even though he had the first Rock Band, because of the music (The Expendables, Slightly Stoopid). World Tour also has a studio where you and your band can make your own songs. RockBand is very similar and you can purchase full albums from online, so it is a very hard choice considering they are mostly the same. I would check online to see what tracks they come with and whats availible for download and see what you would like to play. |

Rock Band 2 has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more songs available than Guitar Hero World Tour. As of this posting, there are some 526 songs available in RB2. GHWT barely tips the scales at a shade over 100 depending on whether you could guitar-only songs.
While the on-disc songs in GHWT may be slightly more familiar than the RB2 songs, the RB2 disc songs are, frankly, more fun to play. |

Some good posts in here.
I recently picked up GHWT and couldn't be happier. I had never played guitar hero or rockband before I picked up GHWT so at the time I had the same questions. I chose GHWT due to the song selection on the box. I enjoy more of the songs of GH than I did on RB2. It's all personal preference though. I really like the instruments for GHWT and have actually heard alot of people also say that they feel like the GHWT are better and more solid but who really knows. Also preference. However, I will say this. In researching which set to get I've read alot about the GHWT drum kits not working properly out of the box alot of times. My whole set works great so, that's just what I read. Anyways, having 500+ songs like Rockband has would be good. Guitar Hero World Tour is Activisions first set with the whole band so they are behind song wise so that would be a consideration also. Anyways, good luck with your decision. Not always an easy one, but either way you'll come away happy. |

Even if you're a cheapskate and don't want to buy any DLC, RB2 still gives you more for your money.
GHWT currently comes with 85 songs on disc with 7 free songs available in the store. Two of those songs are guitar-only boss battles, so 90 playable songs for all instruments for your base purchase price. RB2 comes with 84 songs on disc, plus 20 bonus DLC from the back of the manual, plus 4 free songs available in the store, all playable on all instruments, for a total of 108 songs for your base purchase price. I just got RB2 for the game and GHWT for the instruments. I know there's debate, but having been 'raised' on the GH guitar (until now I was still using my GH 1 guitar) I really didn't like the mushy feel of the RB guitar. So I picked up GHWT for the instruments, but RB2 for the game (got the game itself for cheap through a sale at Best Buy online). Having finally played a bit of RB versus GH, I have to say I agree that RB seems like the better game. But I definitely like the GH guitar better. Being my first drum set, I can't really compare it to others, but it seems decent enough.

I have both on the 360, generally use ps3 for blu's but I know on the 360, the guitar hero instruments will work with rock band, but rock band stuff will not work with guitar hero. So if that is also true on the PS3 , then buy the guitar hero, and then you can always pick up the rock band game itself and have both without all the intruments.

I have both games now, as I picked up GHWT on boxing day.
For me Rockband is better than GHWT. Rockband 2 is better than Rockband. I haven't tried Rock Revolution yet (I picked it up for damn near free on boxing day as well) but I'm pretty sure it's going to come in dead last, or just ahead of playing Gauntlet on a Stratocaster. |

As someone who only owns GHWT I have to say............get Rock Band 2 lol.
As fun as it is....i'm am absolutely bored with it already. Sorry guys but the track list, for me, is pretty effing boring. 90% of the songs are from the 70's and are just really slow. Not to mention that the dc is horrible. Seriously....I don't want to buy a reggae or eagles track pack...where is all the good stuff? This is was makes me the most angry. Rock Band just seems to have waaaaayyyyyyyyy better song selections. Plus they come out with a few track packs once a week. GH only does one a week...and they have sucked so far. |
