Hi,
First time poster here, so please excuse me if this is posted in the wrong forum. I recently purchased a 46" Sharp Aquos, 1080p... came with a free Sharp BD player... bought HDMI cables and the complete package (or so i thought). I was inspired to finally buy an LCD after seeing Iron Man at a relative's house, where the picture was unbelievable. I'm unsure if the proper term would be 3-D, but the it seemed as though it was sharper and clearer than anything that i'd ever seen. Now, mind you, i had seen a blu-ray movie play before, but this was unreal. Again, unlike anything that i had ever seen. Needless to say, I've bought a few Blu-Ray movies and none of them have come close to looking like what i saw that night at my relative's house. The clarity is there, the sharpness is there, but that "brilliance" (i'll call it) isn't quite there. My question to you is, am i missing something? Is there some setting that i may have overlooked? is that 3-D effect limited to certain movies? I've come to the conclusion that it may be due to the fact that my TV is of the 24hz variety and not of the 120hz variety that i know is also available for purchase these days. sorry for the long-winded questions. Any input is greatly appreciated on the matter. Thanks in advance. |

first and foremost...
Sticky: Calibrate Your HDTV also, what was the make/model of your relatives TV? ...different TV's will yield different results. But it sounds like you were impressed with some sort of Motion enhancement. What model is your sharp? |

First off Welcome, you will love the site! My suggestion to you is to check to insure that the HDTV is displaying at it's highest resolution (i.e. 720/1080p). Also check to insure that the settings on the BD player is set to optimal performance. Try that and see how it looks to you after that. Anyone else in the fourms want to include something I may have forgotten? Let's welcome him into Blu!

What Crack said.
I think you are referring the picture as displayed using any one of the numerous motion-enhancers currently being pushed on the new 120Hz LCDs. Personally, I think the "enhancement" makes the movie look God-awful and "fake", which is not even close to how it was meant to look by the director. If you like this look, then that's your decision, but if you don't have a newer 120Hz set with motion-enhancement, you will never achieve the desired picture. |

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies, guys!
First off, my TV is a Sharp Aquos LC-46D65U. Thanks for the link to calibration. Looks really helpful. Yeah, that's what it sounds like. The whole motion-enchancement feature... i know it looks "fake", but you can't deny that it, at the very least, is eye-catching... so it looks like that particular feature's only available on a 120hz tv, huh? |
