Default Terminator selected by U.S. Library of Congress

Protected for all time!

Time will not destroy " The Terminator " the way actor turned politician Arnold Schwarzenegger mangled everything he encountered when he starred in the 1984 action movie.

The low-budget film , which spawned the popular catch-phrase "I'll be back", was one of 25 movies listed for preservation on Tuesday by the U.S. Library of Congress for their cultural, historic or aesthetic significance.

The other titles included "The Asphalt Jungle" (1950), "Deliverance" (1972), " A Face in the Crowd" (1957) , " In Cold Blood " (1967) and "The Invisible Man" (1933).

The library said it selected "The Terminator" for preservation because of Schwarzenegger's star-making performance as a cyborg assassin, and because the film stands out in the science fiction genre .

The film will be encased in glass, behind steel doors that will require two keys to be simultaneously inserted and turned at the same time to be unlocked.

First I thought Hollywood protected the older films anyways (or we could not see Gone with the wind, Citizen Kane and so on, on new formats) so except for the semi-political stunt, I don't see how this matters much.

Second if you listen carefully, the famous line is not "I'll be back" but "I'll Pe Pack"

If memory serves me correctly they did this with The Outlaw Josey Wales too. Kinda cool to see the goverment protecting films like these.

Yes Hollywood does but the US Library of Congress has catalogued millions upon millions of newspapers, magazines, sound bytes, radio broadcasts, tv broadcasts, photographs, and films all to preserve our American culture for the American people. And these films are going into the archives as part of our history so future generations of Americans can see them.
