Default New Nyko Intercooler TS

Has anyone had a chance to try one of these new intercoolers? It now has its own power supply and the fans kick on only when temp. reaches a certain point. Looks like a nice improvement over the old ones, I am debating putting one on my PS3/Xbox 360.

I bought the original one, then returned it immediately after realizing it wasn't worth the cost.

Ps3 doesn't need any additional cooling in most cases (read: Most), but maybe you'll wanna get one for your 360. I like that it only turns on if needed though. Hopefully they made them quieter too, the one I tried was incredibly loud.

I agree with Rike, you do not need any additional coolers for a PS3. Just be reasonable and do not place your PS3 in a completely closed cabinet - it needs some amount of air circulation around it. My PS3 was sitting horizontally on top of my DVD player on an open shelf for more than two years already and so far so good.

you can also get a laptop cooler and use that if you NEED a cooler... they're much cheaper and dont clip over the PS3's cooling system...

if the fan burns out wont it block your system from breathing right?

The old intercooler for the 360 was actually pretty bad- it ran off of the 360's PSU and was said to actually kill some units. Looks like this one has it's own PS.

Honestly, the fans on the 360 aren't an issue. It's the clearance and keeping it dust-free. The fans are more than adequate in the right circumstances. *edit* jamclaur's suggestion of a laptop cooler is probably better than this thing.

I have no doubt that laptop cooler is a good device, however the point is you do not need one for PS3. Besides that, laptop coolers are designed so that they stream additional air through the bottow laptop openings. PS3 does not have them there. Thus, a laptop cooler would be cooling the PS3's plastic body with little to no effect on the actual cooling of the CPU/GPU/HDD/optical drive.

the problem I have is that both my consoles are limitted in the space around them. There is no real good place to put them in my current set up. The PS3 lays horizontally with the hard drive side about 3 inches from the wall of the entertainment center, about 5 inches of clearance on top, nothing in back of the console, then I have a HD cable box on the disk drive side about 4 inches away. I also lifted the console off the shelf about 1/2 inch. I dont think I should have any problems, but I worry. The 360 is a little more crammed but I really dont care for that console as much, cause if it fails, 2nd PS3 here I come.

My brother has the old intercooler fan which does work good. It is noisy at times but he just turns the volume up to counter the noise. One thing on the old one is that the rear fans will sometimes skip and make this horrible noise even after cleaning it. He ended up taking the fan apart and realized there were screws missing on a couple fans, but it still does it every once and a while.

I just bought the new one for myself and it does work good, it too sometimes makes the noise I mentioned about, along with its other normal noise. The unit actually props the system up vertically about a half inch when horizontal. The down side to the fan is that there is only one on the back, hence no power switch located up front anymore, and no second fan on the side. The addition of a temperature control is nice. Even after the system is shut off it will stay on so that it gets all the hot air out of the system until it decides its safe. Both of our systems are in very open places on furniture so they are ventilated well without the fans but I like to be extra cautious.
