Default How lonfg should a player last?

How many hours, essentially? But to simplify the matter, how many feature length movies should a BD player expect to play, before giving out? Should I be able to watch one movie per day for three years? Five years?

I'd like to safely assume 3-5 years for parts, at least. I would think technological obsolescence is the bigger problem - not because of new formats, but just the advancement of Blu-ray. I mean, think of the Samsung 1000 and 1200 - utterly worthless in today's day and age.

DVD players last a while, but these are already well past developmental - who out there has DVD players from the late 90s that still work as they did from Day 1?

Yeah, I had DVD players last longer than 8 years (till I gave them away). But they might have been used an average of once or twice per week, while I use my main BD player sometimes four or five evenings a week, and then additional hours while I run on a treadmill, lift weights or ride a stationary bike (when I usually watch the extra features on disks).

A good player SHOULD last 5-10 years.
But with blu-ray player who knows. Some are just barely making a year and that just down right sad.

Consumers have been taking it on the chin for the years ever since Blu came out ,Dropping good money(stand alone players.)
Ps3 owners have had it really good

Just go over to any of the samsung threads. It can make you Phisically sick to here some of the stories

I own the LG BH100, and things aren't that much better for me either as new discs come out that just won't play, and LG isn't providing a firmware update to fix the issue.

I think that ozzman is absolutely correct, its much more likely that your BD player will become obsolete before it stops working. Sad to say, but IMO the only BD player worth buying right now is the PS3 as it is constantly being updated.

My 1st Marantz system I put together was in 1998/99. I have the
Marantz DV-810 player, I sold it in June 2000 to a lady at work , she used it for years , She was getting rid if it so I bought it back ,DEC.2007, used it for awhile for just tv, then put it in my daughters room , got a toshbia(SP) for her room , and tradeed in the DV-810 in Oct.2008 still in perfect shape& working , The shop I do bussiness with has it on display there and still has a great Picture so its what its around 12 years old and still works good , and that player has played alot of movies ..
