Hi folks, I'm looking for recommendations for a multiple-disc CD player. I'd like to put a little less wear on my PS3 (and lower my energy consumption), so I'm going to get a dedicated CD player. Could be as few as 5 disc, could be larger. I don't think I'd want something as big as 100 disc or more (unless there was some function that would identify what disc I have in Which slot).
Folks here have not steered me wrong in the past, so I wanted to ask all of you. Looking for good quality, and any info on what specific features I should look for - e.g. Choosing Onkyo 805 receiver because of Burr-Brown DAC's, Choosing a polk cs2 over cs1 for slightly better low frequency response - stuff like that... (what makes one disc player better than another???) What do you have, what have you heard, what should I avoid??? Thanks... Doc Last edited by doctorsteve; 01-03-2009 at 05:32 PM. |

Don't know your budget, but have you thought about going squeezebox? Download takes time if you haven't already and if you have a large collection. If you are particular about the sound then you have to look at a DAC.
Or if you have a laptop to spare you can run your laptop through a DAC. It's possibly you can get a lot of noise via laptop though. However, the sound straight out of the stock squeezebox is pretty good. I run a squeezebox through a DAC and have a wireless hard drive so I don't have to fire up the lap top every time I want to listen to music. Pricey set up for the entire thing, but love it. I listen to far more music just due to the convenience of it all. If you want to stick with CDPs, I haven't heard either, but here are some options: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo...umber=MAVC6001 Oppo consistently gets reviews as having an excellent price/performance ratio (Amazon has Oppo). |

Get a Sony CD changer that fits your budget and needs. Amazon has plenty of choices.

If you decide against CD changers, then I would vote for an Oppo 980. It plays DVD, CD, SACD, DVD-A. For about $160, nothing comes close to its sound quality. I own one. It completely outclasses PS3 for sound quality of CDs.
Another option is to buy a used Play Station 1 for a few dollars. I have heard the CD quality is outstanding. |
