Out with the 80GB PS3 (the non BC)

I was at frys today and did talk to a employee there who did know what he was talking about and he informed me that frys is "no longer be reciving the 80GB shortly" it maybe just a rumor but i wouldnt doubt it hence it has been several months since the 80GB has been out. so i was thinking maybe SONY would drop the 160GB to 399.99 and put in a BC PS3 120GB or so for 499.99. or say Fruck(yes fruck) it and half the price of the PS3's for Killzone 2. 199.99 and 249.99 id buy another PS3 and plus it might hurt M$ and Nintendo

yeah really... The PS2 did NOT have this many SKUs, and i personally think it could end up hurting the PS3.
All it takes is a normal every-day mother asking questions about which PS3 to get for her to automatically switch to a 360.

It could take a good 10-15 minutes to get a non-gamer to understand the different SKUs. But hey... at least they aren't all for sale right now.

Sony should simply release 2 60GB models. One with Backward Compatibility, and one without. They should also release "official" PS3 Hard Drives so that people don't need to go around searching for a 2.5" SATA. Make those generally cheap as well, and there would be practically no reason to buy a 360...

But hey, the Sony marketing team seems to be retarded, so whatever...

you say it like the ps2 had any..other than a phat and a slim

but the 360 has the same sku "problem". and clearly its working out just fine, otherwise neither company would do it

They actually did have quite a few different PS2 model skus.

About 15 different models really.

oh? what did they have in them? other than bundled games, which i would hardly count as an sku.

or are you counting the revisions, which are also not different sku's in the sense we're talking here

reasonable prices right now are....$299 and $349....

the extra $50 would be for a game like Uncharted and an extra 40GB....(160/120)

Larger hard drives will continue to replace the smaller ones as they become cheaper (and probably cheaper overall than the smaller ones they replace due to mass production). That is just how it is going to be from here out. Get use to it. BC....who knows if sony will ever bring that back.

Well SONY is still making bank on the PS2 so until the end of 09 no BC but it is possible to have one model out with it. and cutting prices will help hurt M$ hahahahaa

like undeadhunter said, sony still makes crazy bank off retail PS2 titles that they still print.
FFS i still can't find a copy of okami or FFVII Dirge of cerberus.
i read somehwere that more ppl play PS2 than PS3 and Wii combined.

also, i read that the PS3 is not going to be cheaper, rather they will add more value to the current price... ie. another controller, movie bundle, the return of SACD... 2 HDMI outs lol... i don't know, but i read an interview w/ a sony guy that clearly said that they are keeping the PS2 alive til the titles stop selling, the PSP will still be going strong and will be incorporated into PS3 use more and more, and that the PS3 is NOT going to drop in price, rather they will throw better/stronger/faster components into it, and/or bundle it w/ more stuff.

they'll find a way to drop the price once the xbox 720 comes out, or the PS2 dies out completely. whichever comes first.

as for okami and FFVII dirge of cerberus. okami is old, and i see it on bargain bins everywhere. and dirge sucked..

and yes they'll keep adding value to it, but thats only because they can't afford to drop the price yet. its not like thats going to happen forever. even tho they keep saying no, i bet we get a price drop this year. it just won't be in the spring like we all hope.

and the price will be lower long before the ps2 dies/xbox 3 is out
