Default Green Hornet, Squashed?

Quote:
Drew McWeeny of the fledgling entertainment site HitFix had been hearing from various unnamed sources at the Sundance Film Festival that Seth Rogen's plan to bring the '30s pulp hero The Green Hornet may have stalled with the departure of Stephen Chow as the film's director, as reported last month.

Drew says:

Ever since Stephen Chow started to waffle about his participation in the film, I've been hearing rumors that there were major hesitations at Sony. Then at Sundance, I heard several people say that the film was off completely. I spoke this afternoon with a source close to the film, and while they didn't call it completely dead, they did say it is "highly unlikely" that the film will shoot in 2009 at all.

Currently, Sony still has The Green Hornet listed on their release schedule for June 25, 2010 giving Rogen plenty of time to find a new director and a new Kato, but if it gets moved or pulled from that great summer release date, we can probably start taking these rumors more seriously.

Rogan lost a shitload of weight for this role too. He seemed actually dedicated

Rogen is very talented. I would like to see the film be made in 2009.

Thank gods.

I'm getting tired of old 'serious' television shows getting comedic remakes.

I'm still twitching from Starsky and Hutch.

I totally agree. Wasn't Kevin Smith suppose to write this too?

I thought it was Rogen, writing and staring in it.

Sadly I think Hollywood is going to use Seth Rogen too much where it becomes overkill and then everyone is going to hate seeing him everywhere....

Thankfully, "The Green Hornet" will be spared the same fate as "The Spirit." Seth Rogen was all wrong for this project.

It's great news, sorry Seth Rogen but you do not have the look or physic to be the Green Hornet. Now be a good boy, get a clue and let this die and let someone else do this movie the right way. Just because some of these old TV show look "campy" and "cheesie" now it does not mean they should be turn into comedies.

I was looking forward to it. Rogen was getting into some serious shape too.

I actually really like Starsky and Hutch.

The thing is most of the TV shows that get remade as comedies were really painfully bad shows. Green Hornet is an exception as it was a terrific show, despite some real bad cheese. Starsky and Hutch was not a very good show in the first place, popular yes, good not so much. It was comedic just not in a good way. The remake just took that unnatural comedy and turned it into real comedy. Green Hornet however, while not a bad show is not a show or comic book that would translate well into a movie on a serious basis these days. I have similar problems with Green Hornet as I do Superman (the new Singer one). It just does not fit in anymore. We all want more out of our Superheroes now, I blame Batman Begins in a good way and X-men in a good way. Putting Green Hornet on screen as a serious movie would be an extreme failure, and that is because not many people care about the character, it is aged and not modern enough. As a comedy this could work, especially with Seth ROgen attached. Just look at it from a studio persepctive, make a serious movie about the Green Hornet that is probably not a big audience draw or make a comedy that will likely make a lot more money. Easy Easy Decision. It is all about the money in the end.
