Hey, all.
Im a long time listener, first time caller. Anyways, so I got myself a Blu ray player on Boxing Day, after waiting months and months for prices to come down, I decided to take the plunge. $169.99. Its a Sharp Acquos Bd-hp21u. Now the problem I'm having is that when I play a Blu ray dvd (I've tried 2 different movies) Audio only comes out through the TV which is a Sharp Acquos Lc-37d62u. My HTIB is a Samsung HT-Tx52. What I hooked up is Hdmi from player to the TV and Optical out from player to the htib. The receiver does not receive a signal at all. But when I hook up my xbox 360 optical out to the htib it goes into 5.1 right away. I like to think of myself as tech savvy and so do majority of my friends, so I took it upon myself to do some research and hope that a professional can shed some light toward this. I'm figuring it's that the dolbytrue-hd is only through hdmi not optical, and that if I'm configuring it for optical out than the player is putting it at 2.0. and I have used the process of elimination, using known-working optical cables and hdmi cable and the htib optical port works like I said previous, and the movies that i'm playing are Batman Begins and Batman dark knight so I know they are 5.1 at least. The player has both hdmi out and component out but can't do both simoultaneously. But if the player is putting out 2.0 through optical than how come no sound is coming from the front speakers, and only the tv? And yes, I have set the settings on the Blu Ray player so audio out through the optical and video through hdmi. Pcm and bitstream no difference. I have also tried a regular dvd (iron man, non bluray) and still only audio through the tv. I have also tried hdmi to tv, and optical out from tv to receiver and still nothing. Just audio through tv only. The only thing left for me to try is switching the cables to component from player to tv and optical out from player to receiver and if nothing happens again I am gonna condemn the optical port on the player. Now this setup isn't exactly top notch as it's for my family room, and I'm in the process of building a theatre room downstairs, and plan on using a ps3 for bluray purposes later on. But, I'm not gonna sit back and say "oh, well". I want a solution regardless. And if I have to sacrifice 1080p for 1080i so be it. Any help and suggestions are much appreciated. |
