Default Gurren Lagann Blu?

With they release Gurren Lagann on blu-ray? I am getting sick of buying stuff, when all of the sudden it gets unexpectedly released on Blu-ray.

lol, that would be sweet. I'd like to start seeing full series come out on blu now. I'm really looking forward to Samurai 7 to see how it looks

Not a fan of that, but I do want some Viz media bluray releases such as Bleach and Death Note. Wouldn't mind having Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Ninja Scroll movie while they're at it either. But I know that won't happen for a long time.

I would kill for a Gurren Lagann release. I too have held off on buying the DVDs so far. I have emailed Bandai Visual twice, one asking about Gurren Lagann and another asking about True Tears. No answer on GL, but for True Tears they replied:

"The odds of True Tears being release in Blu-Ray Release are.... unsure."

So, at least it wasnt a 'no', so i would assume BV are at least weighing their options for the format.

Of course, the next line in the email was:

"if you may, visit our website at www.dot-anime.us and look under our blue-ray titles."

The misspelling made me assume that the employee maybe only spoke english as a second language? So the mail could mean anything...

Hopefully the Samurai 7 set from Funimation does well and the other companies will soon follow with more releases.

Since the 2nd half of last year i have stated collecting Japanese Bluray editions of various anime, both with and without English subs/dubs.I stated with the Fullmetal Panic sets as Kurokowa has included the English dubs on these gorgeous boxsets along with the original Japanese vocal track and subs.I have looked many times for a Gurren Lagann Bluray set, but none have been released natively in Japan to my knowledge. The only anime that have been very popular(on dvd) in the US and Japan that are currently receiving the Bluray treatments in Japan are Fullmetal Panic(all 3 series available in Bluray sets from Japan), Code Geass and Code Geass R2(releasing late this year on dvd in US),Gundam 00(season 2 just starting on Bluray),and in March, Eureka 7 is being released in 2 Bluray boxsets(VERY expensive)of which i am not sure if the English language track will be included(VERY rare).

Some anime that has been released on Bluray in both the US and Japan are Freedom(absolutely gorgeous),Samurai Seven(just out and of so-so quality),Gunbuster and Diebuster,One Piece,The BDZ movies,Afro Samurai 1 and 2(EXCELLENT animation by Studio Gonzo though 2 lacks in the story dept..).Being that Gurren Laggan is a Bandai/Honoamise release, i'd eventually think
it would get a Bluray release but, as to whether it will be a Japan only or US/Japan release will be anyone's guess. With the economy the way it is, i'd say a US Bluray release seems unlikely, though if enough people ask for it, i'm sure Bandai will consider it(the English language tracks are done and all they need to do is upscale the picture to 1080p).Funi is releasing the new Evangelion movie later this year on dvd and, i'm hoping beyond hope that they release a Bluray edition as well. When they release every DBZ movie on Bluray, the new EVA 1 flick on Bluray would seem like a shoe-in for release later this year.

Hope this helped you out a little.

Hi all,

We at LDMS now represent Beez Entertainment in the UK. Beez are the European home ents wing of the Bandai Group, based out of Paris. I'm meeting with their rep next week, but I'm given to understand that on the Blu-ray front, potential candidates probably include Gurren Lagann. They've already released Freedom and Gunbuster vs. Diebuster the Movies on UK BD, and definitely have more planned this year. They've been mentioning GL for release this year for the last few cons we both attended, so we'll see.

My best guess is that Code Geass and/or Code Geass R2 will get the Bluray treatment before Gurren will.It behooves everytone involved, not just because of Code Geass popularity, but also because the Code Geass and Code Geass R2 Blurays are already out in Japan and all that need be applied to them are English language tracks(for North American and UK release)and
possibly some subtitling. The quality of the discs is excellent as i own quite a few of the Japanese editions already.Coming up with a region a/b Bluray for release in the US,Canada, and The UK would not take very much effort on Bandai/Honneamise's part should they decide to release the CG/CGR2 Blurays in our territories.Gurren Lagann would also be another excellent candidate but imo any BR edition would likely come after CG/CG2.

No problem, u_nick. As Tezs as pointed out, Bandai in Japan are making global masters for BD release, so once Bandai US have sorted out their release, the European one from Beez will follow reasonably soon after.

I have to say, I have the Freedom box set, and it's a thing of beauty. Good hard SF series, the sort of thing that hasn't been done in anime for a few years now. Great BD box set, looks and sounds superb. Cannot wait to see their other titles as they roll out.

Good news for you.Air has been out on Bluray for awhile in Japan and as a matter of fact, just received an updated boxed set release in Bluray(Japan).Utawarerumono Bluray edition starts up in March sometime in Japan. The good news is that since BR editions will already be in existence for both of these series, they'll become much more appealing choices for Bandai,Funimation, or other US Anime producers/distributors to bring here to the US.All the hard work has essentially all been done, and costs will be alot less than having to remaster and resub the series in 1080p and HD sound themselves.

Both of those series are in Funimation's care now not ADV so we may see Air or Utawareumono on Blu-ray in America sometime this year(maybe like this Fall).
