Default Upgrading my system

Hello there,

I've got a question about dual subwoofers. Right now, I have a Yamaha subwoofer from a cheap HTIB set, an 8" model called the YST-SW012. My question is, does it make any sense to pick up another one of these for only $89 so I could have the benefit of a two-subwoofer system, or should I really just focus on getting a better subwoofer a few months down the road? The money isn't really the issue, it's just that I have my system in a tiny bedroom for the moment and wanting to know if it makes sense at that price. Thanks!

Here's a link on Amazon for the sub I have: http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YST-SW012-8-Inch-Front-Firing-Subwoofer/dp/B000TQ4D8K

What are you looking for in your home theater? If your looking to rebuild, it is best to start out with a speaker upgrade, subs included and then move on as you can afford to.

I'll get some measurements up in a couple hours when I'm home, but it's pretty small. I just had Yamaha satellite speakers and I bought a pair of Pioneer BS21 bookshelves the other day which are very well received for the price, so that's another upgrade I have coming on the way. I got the Yamaha satellite speakers in a 5.0 config, the subwoofer listed above, and the 2013 entry-level Yamaha receiver for only $240, so I think I came out very well in the deal considering it was my first ever surround system. Still contemplating how I'm going to go about upgrade the center and surround speakers since the room is so small though. Now that I've thought about it a bit more, I don't really think a second sub would add that much considering the size of the room. I don't notice any deficiencies in my sub considering how cheap it was but I just thought an upgrade couldn't hurt.

Can't wait 'til I'm out of college so I can stop running out of space in my room lol. I'd love to upgrade to floorstanders and bookshelves, but I just don't have a bit of space in my bedroom anymore and I'm pretty much stuck here until I graduate in about 18 months. Once I get those bookshelf speakers installed I'll take some pictures for my gallery on here.

So another quick question: I bought those Pioneer BS-21 Bookshelves the other day for my fronts, and I'm now looking into upgrading my center and surrounds. I know that it's said that the ideal setup is to have the exact same speaker all the way around your system; does that really apply as much to a system as cheap as mine? Basically I'm trying to choose between picking up two more pairs of bookshelves, vs one pair and the corresponding center channel for this line (obviously I'd have one extra bookshelf speaker with the first option). The difference in cost between the two is barely anything; in fact the two pairs of bookshelves route might even be cheaper. What do you guys think?

Thought I'd post a few specs on the two options as well: The BS21 bookshelves have a 4" woofer, rated 65 Hz-20kHz, while the C21 center channel has two 5.25" woofers, rated for 55 Hz-20kHz. So just on specs the C21 looks a bit more impressive I suppose.

ROT (Rule of Thumb) is to match timbres, the center you described will work well. If you want the same all around 3 bookshelf speakers will work well to. It comes down to cost really imo.
