Post CES 2009: Sony teases with high-quality PS3 3D

Sony showed off some games in 3D at CES.

Check it out here

It would be cool if they could do this with a firmware update. It would be even cooler if you were able to selectively turn it on for the PS3 for anything being outputted. Meaning game devs wouldn't need to implement on a game by game bases.

What do you guys think about this?

Could be a possible ps4 thing. I don't think it will be mainstream with the ps3 anytime soon.

Maybe...I know it would take a while but they did demo WipeOut and also I believe Gran Turismo Prologue. So it might not be too far off the radar.

Also it would seem they did it with a PS3 and I think without new hardware...

One could hope it would come out within the PS3 lifespan if it ever happens.

For now I'm still waiting on PlayTV for us non-PAL people.

After reading the article I am led to believe that this technology has more to do with the display than it does the PS3. Did they ever specify if the software had to be modified for this technology or was it simply from the monitor it was running on?

They stated that it can do it on the PS3 which will require a BIOS update but thats it. The display is the most important part.

About a month or a week someone else will post this as a new thread, and people will be astonished as if that it was the first time posted.

Thats how fast information is posted and long forgotten.

Hey, I'm a long time lurker and I don't remember it. haha

Sorry if its a repost but I searched on CES and did not see anything. Also it was breaking news on Slashdot (not that that means its new with all the dups they post). Plus CES is this week so did I miss something? Was this done at a previous tech show by sony with the ps3?

I think it was mentioned more as a Blu-ray capability, but, someone from Sony confirmed that the PS3 was capable of the tecnology about 6 months ago...

Dude who cares who made it first. I'm not here to have a pissing contest. If it gets merged I could care less if your the OP...

I just found your thread now and I didn't see it before because you didn't mention CES 2009 and you don't really say much in your post anyway. So searching picked up nothing. And if you cared so much you should have just posted dup and a link to your thread.

Also if your such the forum master. You would know Shin-ra is not around. Ask one of the new mods to merge.

... toxa, do whatever you want with this thread. It's posts like these that keep me lurkering and not contributing. Every time I do I just get some hostility from someone that thinks there the forum master because they came first or they don't agree with my OPINION.

I dont think Shin-Ra will merge them, Toxa, AranhaHunter and Maxpower1987 might thought as they are now the gamer moderators at this time.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=80167

Perhaps Shin-Ra will move it after he gets back from his vacation.

And BluGod you are misunderstand whats being said.. usually a forum tries to keep information on a subject together so it can be easily analysed with new information, that is usually what is done, at one time if you made a mgs 4 topic containing new news on mgs4 it would be merged into the one mgs4 thread.

Alot of times articles can flow to the bottom and vanish, but if they can be neatly combined into one article then all is good.

The only problem is, if the old article was named RA3 not going to be released, and your article is oh yeah its going to be released and proved the original post wrong, that might be separated out because the information would not normally be seen.

Through all of this is at the full discretion of the moderators, administration, and system administrators give or take, and thus it would there decision which would be greatly followed and loved regardless what they choose to do.. including nothing.

Does it need to be merged.. I don't know that not my call, nor is it NARMAK's or another other member.

What is really important it does not matter who is the op and who posted first its about combining and keeping information together so those who talk and discuss it may discuss with all the facts to the discussion together...

I apologize if I come across as hostile its not directed towards those who pointed out the fact that it was posted already. I fully understand why a merge would be needed. It makes complete sense to keep it clean and in one place.

It's the attitude I get from some people in this forum whenever I post. Its always some sort of remark that comes across like everyone owes them something or they know best. A false sense of entitlement. In this case its an "I came first so I should be OP".

Personally why would you care if your OP. I don't. (Unless they give away free blu-rays if your the OP ). The important thing should be that the topic is out there to discuss and not who gets credit for "finding" it.

Seriously I'm just annoyed by the maturity level of some people. Then again I should just expect it by now considering its the internet...

I think you have misunderstood me, threads on the same thing should be merged, my point was i merely presented the information first & felt that should be recognised & do not in anyway intend to belittle your contribution

I could not post a link as i use my PS3 mainly for the internet now & posting here & it's a bit difficult to find a easy work around like PC link posting

The thread i posted was done quickly while i was at college & meant to be doing some work so i couldn't write much but most of the info was in link so didn't feel the need to add

Been off forum a bit & just noticed MODs announcement so didn't know Shin-Ra was on holiday

yup..bios update, and only the 3d certification is one of the thing's that only the PS3 would be able to do . the xbox360 and the nintendo Wii , the 3d certification company has stated could not be done for the other two.

Default CES 2009: Eyes-on with Sony's Real 3D games

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/11/ce...real-3d-games/

Quote:
Have you ever had one of those moments when you looked at the graphics being generated by a brand new console and suddenly knew without doubt that you wouldn't be able to go back to your old games without feeling like you were missing something? As we've gotten older and seen more consoles come and go, the intensity of that feeling has continued to wane. But as we checked out the PlayStation 3 games Sony was presenting in Real3D at CES we were struck by the surprisingly potent sensation that we were staring at the future through geeky tinted glasses.

The effect was shockingly good in the demo loop of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, WipEout HD and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Seeing debris and opposing vehicles actually fly towards us instead of appearing to fly towards us is as much of a graphical leap forward as any console iteration of the past decade.

When we handed back our borrowed glasses (like good citizens) we have to admit it was with a little sadness. To see the future that closely and to know it's still a long ways out makes the waiting that much worse. Tomorrow can't get here soon enough.
