Bioshock to span 6 games?

Christoph Hartmann says title can have five sequels – but publisher promises not to “cash in” on franchise

Global President of 2K Christoph Hartmann has told MCV that Bioshock has the potential to emulate the Star Wars series – and that the publisher might even create five sequels to the 2007 smash hit.

However, Hartman was careful to promise fans that 2K won’t “cash in” on the title.

In an exclusive interview, Hartmann said:

“Some of the mega-franchises we talk about only lasted ten years because companies took five years to ship a game. Look at Duke Nukem. It’s been a great franchise for 20 years, because it seems like it’s been in development for 20 years.

“For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’. “But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did.

“But we have to be careful not to cash in. I won’t name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it’s hard to believe what they’ve done to it. It’s upsetting, actually.”

Bioshock 2: Sea Of Dreams is due out on Xbox 360 and PS3 this year.

bioshock FTW! beat this 2wice on my xbox already and going to do it again on the ps3 with the 10 dollar off coupon 2K is giving out! sweet! heres hoping for a 30 dollar sale! (then i can pick it up for 20 and use that saved cash for the challenge rooms)

They compared the series to "Star Wars" and that trilogy set. So that could mean this could be the "current" storyline for 3 games and then 3 games telling what happened to Rapture and how it came to be. Hmmm...

6 Games in total ? hey why not ? If they are well done with nice graphics and a riveting gameplay, I'm all for it. (Same thing for Mirror's edge and other titles)

Interesting how I just now started to play this game again now that I finished up Fallout 3 now this article comes out.

I think that I'm halfway through the game? I'm at the Casino/Theatre doing missions for Leo Cohen or something? I need to take photos of dead people for him. He reminds me of the Saw guy, lol.

I haven't even finished the first one and I'm excited about the possibilities.

I just beat the first one about 2 months ago, and I could not stop playing it...it was so fun and the story was so dope. So if they can make 6 as good as ONE...then I am all for it!

they'd never let the amount of violence in needed to make it as great as the game.... but I really hope I'm wrong

They should make just 3. I don't want BioShock turning into The Land Before Time. Or 2k to strech the story in to 6 games. It will be like Dragon Ball Z. Promising the pay off in the next episode, but it turns out to be just Goku and Freeza streching and talking trash.
