They don't look much different than the 3D renderings from a while ago. wtb review!

Wonder how far into November or December the 69xx(replacements for 5850/5870) will launch.

From what I was reading on other sites it looks like this could be up to 20% faster then the 480 and 5% faster then the 5870 and not much better or a small bit better then the 5970 I guess I'll wait and see full specs but you'd think the 6870 would be better then the 5970

that would be hella sweet if I could snag two of those 5970s for a good price, but they're so hard to find I doubt even when these cards are out you'll see good prices on any of the high 900s.

Amazon the 5970s are around $700 If the 6870s are cheaper then that I might pick one up.

The 6850 and 6870 are aimed at the 5750 and 5770 crowd, so I'd imagine they would be around low to mid $200's.

From what I have read the 6870 will be around 5850 performance. The biggest difference will be with tessellation. In other words, it won't be competing with the 480, it will be competing with the 460, maybe the 470.

I doubt AMD will release a dual gpu card to replace the 5970 this year. Best bet would be early next year, if they even do it.

Based on the write-ups at a few tech websites, the writers kept stressing one point: the two models (HD 6850 and 6870) aren't direct replacements for anything, nor are they successors to the 5800 series. Some have even suggested that the HD 6850 and 6870 may slot between the 5770 and 5850 (even though the 5830 was intended to address this, supposedly, AMD was disappointed by its reception).

Folks may need to keep their expectations very low. Traditionally, AMD released their top-tier cards from the outset, followed by low- to mid-tier offerings and a flagship card, but not this time. I think they're reserving the higher-end announcement for the Fusion™ family of Accelerated Processing Units (APUs).

oh ok, yeah guess that was my assumption that these were going to compete with the 5900s, but that makes total sense, still sounds like they are pretty good cards if they are going to be sub $300

Side note what 5970 company should I buy from

Diamond, XFX ? any recommendations would be great , I bought an extra Diamond 5770 (even though I took it back that night because of the crossfire issues in crysis ) and really liked the packaging/ card.

We'll know everything about these two cards in three days' time. Nice to see that AMD is giving their partners more flexibility regarding the design of the HD 6850 (right now, the card I'm most interested in). Consumers need more sub-$300 options from AMD.

I would go with XFX (for the limited lifetime warranty). I've been using a Diamond HD 3870 for a while now, and it has a habit of triggering random reboots within XP (not even Windows 7, XP! ), so I've been unhappy for some time. I'm waiting for the announcements on Friday before I make a decision on a replacement.

Same it would be nice if this fridays 6800 announcement got the 5970 under 600 bucks but I won't hold my breath.

same if this 6870 is cheap and the 5970s don't move in price I'll probably just get that.

I like where my temps are and worry about the GTX messing with that. Oh NVIDIA how the mighty have fallen... 1 thing I was pissed about is I bought an extra 5770 to hold me over till the next wave and from everything I read it should have been an easy addition, but massive issues with crysis when in crossfire

regular game, everywhere I read it said just match up the clock speeds and update drivers, so I got a diamond one since it matched my stock one that came with the alienware I got, once I got it installed the sky and rocks in game would flicker and blink like crazy, so I just packed it up and took it back

ill try out the original i have an xfx and sapphire ones myself, overlocked them both a bit

Crysis warhead ran fine aside from a bit slow (running a res of 5760x1080 though haha)

Yeah see I have two different cards I wish it worked ... The performance of two 5770s should be more then enough to tide me over till the new ones come out... its a shame I didn't get to keep them, now that the 6870s are coming out if they are under 400 bucks I'll probably buy one of them (unless the 5870s drop under 300 then I guess I'd settle for that for now)
