It is my personal opinion that the "matte" screen on the "30" series of Samsung are TERRIBLE. If you see a side-by-side comparison of a 630 to a 650 or 680, you'll see what I mean. To me, it's like looking at tiny lines stretching across your screen in a "matte" style. I originally noticed it in Circuit City, as they had a 630/680 set up next to each other. I asked the sales person why the screen on the 630 looked so odd, and that's what the difference is. I definitely don't think it is worth it just to "save" a little money. You can get the 40" 650 series on amazon for around $1300, and I think the 46 stays around $1600. Both of those are MUCH better prices than what you'll find on the 630 at B+M stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.)

I agree with jeabombers. When looking for mine new set, the 630 was in the same area as the other sets I was looking at. I thought it lost a lot of the "pop" the other sets had that were glossy. At first, I thought it was a defective 650.

In the end, I went with the Sammy 860, but unfortunately, I'm exchanging it for a Panny plasma (which I see you already have and not sure why you are going LCD). Anyway, in my viewing area, I think the plasma will be a night and day experience because I was able to see too many of the flaws inherent with LCDs that plasmas do not have.

I have the 46" 630 Samsung and I love it, I upgraded from a 42" LG 720p set and it blow my old one out of the water. I haven't noticed any weird lines like somebody else stated and the black levels on this set compared to my old one are so much better its insane. I looked at the 650 in best buy compared to the 630 and I couldn't see any difference. I know theres a difference in the contrast of the two sets but i couldn't tell. Also it does have a matte screen which I needed because of all the windows in my living room.

I prefer an LCD. I just got the 630 last night and I was blown away with the 120hz feature. When I first purchased the Panny 80u, I was just like 'ehhh its nice', but when i turned on the 630.. it was like

Hehe. I love my Samsung

Is the 630 a lower-end model? I have the 550 series from I'm guessing last year, and I'm entirely too happy with it. I've seen the 680 and it also looks beautiful, so I'm wondering if the 630 is this year's budget model.

I'm trying a 40A530 presently that I got cheap as an open box. I see no issue with the matte screen. It is replacing a Panny 720p display and the Sammy blows it away!

HAHA this drives me insane! I was set on an 85u panny and the whole plasma route, and then you go and say a lower end TOC blows away the 80u. How, if at all was your 80u calibrated?

I miss the Panny though, but the one I keep seeing in stores is like the 800u or the 850u, not the 80u.

I bought 650 last September.
I love it. But, Only negative thing is Glossy panel is not good to watch with light source. I bought this TV for Gaming ( main reason) and Movie.
If you buy 630 or 650 for movie, I recommend plasma ( Pioneer Kuro ).
