It looked OK on Netflix but could've been better. If they treat it right I could be tempted to buy. Nice scenery and music, if nothing else lol

Dude. ASOKA is highly underrated. I've seen it in Full HD and 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus on Netflix and Google Play. Its enjoyable only if you like those period epics. Make sure you fast forward the songs. They hinder the storytelling completely and are forcefully injected to keep with the norms of early 2000 decade.

Besides these points. Its wonderfully shot by DoP who is probably india's greatest along with Ashok Mehta. Santosh Sivan happens to be Director here too.

I want ASOKA BRD for uncompressed Video and Audio. Its a solid good movie compared to the trash coming out these days. It has a bad reputation because it was non-romantic, risky movie that flopped at Box Office.

The transfer seems optimized more for broadcast/streaming HD, but nice punchy color.

Is this film worth revisiting? I've only seen it once, but I didn't particularly care for it

if there is any period epic that's worth revisiting. ASOKA is the one. Had Sivan been given full creative freedom from SRK, the producer, I bet all the songs will be excluded and film will be tightly edited. ASOKA is better acted, directed and technically superior to hit like JODHAA AKBAR IMO. It also reminds today's audiences how overrated BM and PADMAAVAT are.

I think most of Shemaroo's transfers are optimized from the POV of streaming/broadcast, so DNR seems to be a given. They'll *possibly* be better than streaming in terms of compression artifacts, but unlikely to be the "UNCOMPRESSED PHYSICAL MEDIA" jewels that someone on this forum is so fond of expounding. Hopefully the soundtrack is from the original source and not just a numbers upscale of a broadcast quality track.

Asoka was way ahead of its times. Today with films like Bahubali/padmavati doing well. Asoka would have done great at the box office too. Its not as candy floss as those films. The songs itself are worth the purchase. Mine should be arriving monday.
