Default My wife said no to Plasma....

So yeah, instead of getting a Panny plasma on Black Friday my wife said no, she wants an LCD because she want to wait until we get a house to get a really nice TV. I told her that Plasma is cheaper for size and the colors and contrast are better but she won't budge.

So now we are in the market for a 42"-46" LCD. What are your recommendations for an under $1400 budget?

WHAAAT? A Samsung pn50a550 (plasma) is under $1,500 right now at www.buydig.com and I saw it for $1,300 at Fry's... I haven't checked Amazon lately... But anyways. For that money, you could have a 50" plasma sitting in your lap.

My wife said she wants to wait until we get a house to get a nice plasma. Until then I have to settle for a LCD. I told her it's cheaper and better quality to get a plasma but to no avail....

The weird thing is she's a graphic designer and should know more about colors and contrast than I and would appreciate the better image. But she said something yesterday that horrified me, she said she doesn't understand why I buy Blu-ray's because she can't tell the difference from that and a regular DVD. I almost cried.

Divorce her asap! I circumvented this problem by making sure the first blu rays we watched together all had a really high PQ rating(Planet Earth, ratatouille), that's how I "tricked" her

What difference does it make whether you have a house or not? why waste money on a tv that you aren't going to fully enjoy.

Thumbs up

All is not lost. She said you can get a real nice plasma when you get a house. So.................. now you can up the price point to about 4K for your real nice TV for the house. And the LCD you will get now will go to the bedroom or the bathroom.

The first Blu-ray I showed her was The Fall. We only have a 32" 720p LCD right now. I think it may be easier to change her mind when we goto Best Buy on Black Friday but until then her mind is set.

This is where my wife really surprised me. She actually does acknowledge the difference in PQ of HDTV and blu-ray! Even though all she says is "Ooh, that is so pretty!" Everbody else(Mom, cousins, ect.) all say it all looks the same. it makes me wanna smack their @$$es in the face.

my wife is very cool about my blu ray infatuation. one thing that does annoy her is when we watch something on an HD channel I always have to say
"you know, this would be really awesome on bluray!". then she rolls her eyes

Strange.. plasmas tend to be cheaper. For an even bigger size compared to LCD! I think she needs to think about it a little more..

Odd logic.

You could always send her to the day spa and then go get a plasma and throw out everything so she cannot see the box and just tell her its an LCD...

But really you should throw out to her the, "why do you want to waste this money now if we are only going to buy another TV, this will make it a one time thing, I will be happy and then we can use that money to recarpet the house when we get one, not buy a tv we could've already had."

If that doesn't work here you go, see below:

Sony KDL-40V4100 at CC its $1250
Samsung LN40A550 for $1100 at CC
Samsung LN46A530 for $1450 at CC
Samsung LN40A650 for $1499 at CC

Amazon Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV $1280
Amazon Samsung LN40A650 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV $1300
Amazon Sony KDL-40W4100 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV $1500
Amazon Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-46V4100 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV $1419

Best Buy Sony KDL-46V4100 $1419 (same as Amazon)
Best Buy Sony KDL-40V4100 $1299

That's why I gotta keep my wife. When I first bought the Hitachi 51" HDTV we had it for about 6-8 months. She really loved it. Then one day we are sitting there and she says,"The TV is too small", "Can we get a bigger one?" I'm like Hell yeah. She says go do your usual research, so I do and end up with the Mits 73" DLP. Now recently she said yes to upgrading the receiver and then to the speakers. So now she wants to do a backyard theater in the spring so we can do outdoor movie nights with friends and family. Well I have my old surround system and a pull down screen from when I had my old projector, so I just need a decent projector. Can't wait to setup the backyard like a drive-in.
So, I have to keep her. Don't get me wrong I let here get all the stuff she wants, so it's a trade off. Recently I got her to go to a gun show and we bought a 9mm. Now we go to the range all the time. She went from,"I don't want a gun" to "when can we go to the range again?".

Why don't you just wait it out? It seems silly to buy a LCD now and then buy the tv you really want in a couple years. Keep saving, that way you can have 60" Kuro waiting for you in that new house.
