Default Samsung HT-BD8200 Sound Bar with Blu-ray & Netflix

clicky

another clicky..

so....I've been thinking about what to do in my bedroom with my flatscreen...I don't want a full 5.1 setup...so, I started thinking about sound bars. I ran into this one and I am floored with its features.

Quote:
Samsung's HT-BD8200 soundbar does the standard virtual-5.1-channel sound jig just fine—the kicker is that it plays Blu-ray discs, streams Netflix/Pandora, and has USB- in and an iPod dock, with optional wi-fi. That's a lotta sources.

The 2.1 setup doesn't say how many individual drivers create the simulated surround (Yamaha's sound bars use up to 42, which are calibrated automatically via a plug-in microphone), but it's rated at 300W. It'll also handle Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA decoding.

But the audio component is not what's exciting here. What perked up the most ears here at Samsung's press conference is the built-in inputs: a profile 2.0 Blu-ray player, a network connection for streaming Netflix and Pandora via subscription, USB for adding a storage device or an optional 802.11n wi-fi dongle, and an iPod dock.

In short, it's a pretty soundbar package (wall mountable) with everything you'd need for a pretty solid home theater; just add TV and a cable box. It's available in the "first half of 2009" at an as-yet unannounced price.

I really hope this shows up in the next 90 days...that way, I can return my Blu-ray player I already bought from Costco...

oh...and it has a wireless sub..so no running wires....

If you do go this route, the subwoofer will not be very powerful. That's where we come in. You can always upgrade the subwoofer driver and get a much better performing system in music and movies. Read this thread. If the unit altogether costs upwards of $1000, I would suggest going a different route. It all looks nice though.

buddy...I'm not a virgin to Home Audio...

I stated in the OP that I didn't want to go the 5.1 route for my bedroom. "That's where we come in"...what does that mean?

and, I put this thread here for people who are also interested in a small setup...if you aren't into it, just stay out?

There really was no need for the tone of your post..

I was talking about the wireless subwoofer. I linked you to the upgrading subwoofer thread. And I did read you didn't want to go that route. I was joking.

I was just posting my opinion is all. I said something about the subwoofer driver, made a joke, and suggested another option (going separates- a BD player and HT system). It was not a derogatory post in my opinion at all. Sorry if it came off that way...

This looks awesome! Exactly what I've been looking for to put in our living room. I bet it will be really expensive though.

Here perhaps? That is very reasonable for anyone looking for a nice combo deal.

Oh man...my sex just fell out

I've been looking for a soundbar solution for my bedroom for a couple of months now too, and this is just perfect!

I don't have a BD player in the bedroom yet, so I was thinking about buying another player and a soundbar, but this is potentially the solution to my problem.

Thanks for the heads up!

$800 is alot lower than I expected, some places will probably have it even cheaper! I gotta start working on the wife now to see if we can get this. I was wanting a soundbar and another blu-ray player to put in the living room anyways so this is awesome! Plus, you throw in the netflix streaming and I may just sign back up with them!

Looks pretty sexy for a virtual surround unit - it WOULD look great in a bedroom, agree with OP....

That is assuming it has an LFE out. If these are the only ports... it may only work with the sub it comes with.... unless of course you want to add a receiver to the mix which kind of defeats the purpose.

I also didn't see any inputs for playing your cable box or other sources..... surely there must be more ports somewhere
