She was new and exciting the year she won the Oscar. .

Why doesn't she fit into leading roles?
She's primarily a supporting actress?

Am I missing something here?

Why is she NOT a major player?

I wouldn't know. She is a gorgeous and talented actress. I liked her in War Inc. and My Cousin Vinny .

She was amazing in My Cousin Vinny but she was in one movie something devil she had a nude/ porn scene I almost walked out the theater to finish off shes so hott LOL

You can look at a lot of the 90s Oscar supporting actor winners and see they didn't become stars. Juliette Binoche, Cuba Gooding Jr., Dianne Wiest, Anna Paquinn, Mercedes Ruehl, and Mira Sorvino all won supporting actor awards in addition to Tomei, and none of them have become huge stars. It might have to do with going from being a smaller part in a movie to trying to carry a movie. It also could have to do with choices in roles (especially with Cuba Gooding Jr).

Maybe she chose to be a supporting actress. You don't hear much about her in the tabloids. Maybe she is comfortable with her level of celebrity and it is that way by choice. Just an idea.

If thats the case he made a wrong choice with Linewatch cause that movie was awful

I hated it. Phillip Seymour Hoffmans big fat belly draped over her beautifull bottom ruined it for me. Hes a great actor, but needs to keep his shirt on.

She's definitely underrated & I wish she were in more prominent movies. Certainly one of my favorite actresses.

dianne wiest has been around for a long, long time before she got her oscar. her star has never really risen much. that's just the way of some actors.
