On that note, why is Doctor Who so much more pricey than other TV shows on Blu? Can't be a BBC thing, Sherlock is reasonably priced. |

I know. I was just saying that I wanted them like that. If they re-release S12 again like the US version (normal case), then I will only get these like that and avoid the Limited UK Versions since I want to collect them in the same type.

. . . and that's why jumping around doctor to doctor is the best way to go. Someone somewhere will always have a favorite Doctor that you cant stand, or that hates your Doctor. Three years of Tom (assuming one season every 6 months) is unfair to those who love Pat or Bill. Starting from the beginning (missing episodes not withstanding) and moving foward is unfair to someone who loves Seven. Be thankful that you're getting season releases instead of a single story every two to three months. |

Many have the season 12 set now and are in the mood for more Tom Baker. I don't want to switch around back-and-forth between different doctors. I want to start with a Doctor and stick with his run until finished, not jump from series to series with different companions. And it's a bad idea for new fans who may be coming to this from the new series, wanting to check out the classics. They will feel lost being shuffled around randomly from doctor to doctor. These old shows do pick up new fans. This is a confusing way to introduce new fans to the classics. |

It's how they've done it from the beginning of the home video range. Apparently, there are (or at least were) a lot of Tom Baker fans that will casually pick up a title of another doctor, here or there, while they wait for more Tom releases. Tom is the biggest seller of the "classic" range, so they don't want to blow their entire wad too early.
If it were up to me, I would've started with the first complete season and released them all in order and then gone back to the earlier seasons (to give maximum time for missing episode recoveries). Also, if it were up to me, I would've started releasing season sets on Blu-ray at least 5 years ago. Clearly, it is not up to me. |

Most of that work is done now, so they don't have to start from scratch and do each story over. So since they're releasing full seasons, and the vast majority of the work is done, it makes sense to me to just pick a doctor and go through his entire series before moving to the next doctor. And the obvious choice due to popularity is Tom Baker. I get why they picked him to start with. What I don't get is why they're jumping around. What other series ever has been released like this? Again, back then it's how they did it, one story at a time. Now with full season sets, it makes no sense. The restoration team says it will take around 8-9 years to finish the whole line, at around 3 sets per year. So I have to possibly wait up to 8-9 years to get the last Tom Baker series, depending on how they choose to release them? Sorry, but that makes no sense to me. Pick a doctor and stick with him. It makes sense to have some variety - something for everyone. The stuff you have no interest in...you can skip.

This looks to be a better set than S12. As much as I love Tom's first season, S19 here has greater variety in storytelling which makes for a more compelling set overall, I'd say.
I'll totally pick it up, but I've yet to get S12 due to all the disc issues. Hopefully they're all ironed out by the time this releases. |
