I wish the studios in the U.S. were as eager to release these films and others. Alliance is really cranking out the releases in Canada. But as mentioned earlier, they are usually bare bones releases.

That is in fact just the way I like them. I know there are many who like the "extras", but it's not something that is of interst to me.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably pick up these: Freddy vs. Jason, The Butterfly Effect, and Good Will Hunting. Maybe a couple of the others.

Yeah I already posted those here a while ago: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=72473

I was planning on just updating that thread from now on with future Alliance listings, but this thread title will probably work best instead. Out of these I may get Hostage (great action/suspense flick) & 21 Grams. Good Will Hunting too if they actually put the extras on there, but I doubt they will.

Yes, some Alliance/Canada exclusive Blus are barebones (Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn, Nightmare on Elm Street), but this may be the reason for the 12.95 - 17.95 cdn pricepoint.

Their Sin City release was great, so I'll definitely look out for reviews before taking the dive on a few of these titles.

If the PQ/AQ is as good as everyone says Sin City is and the price is $13 CDN then I have zero problem with no extras. Too bad there is only one movie on that new list I have any interest in (The Constant Gardner).

EDIT: Anybody know if these Alliance releases have bi-lingual covers or not or generally which studios don't use bi-lingual covers in Canada? I really would like to avoid them if possible and I my Dark Knight steelbook is English only on the front. Text on the back doesn't really matter to me.

All I can tell ya is that it is Region A. If their past releases(Sin City, Gangs of New York, Kill Bill 1 or 2) have been region free, then maybe these are as well.

All Alliance Atlantis titles that have a french language track (not just subtitles) are required to have bilingual packaging as per their standards.

Their bi-lingual covers confuse me. One side had English as the promenant language, with French in small font accompanying it. On the reverse side, it was the opposite. Why not have one all English cover on one side and an all-French cover on the other?

I'd get Freddy vs. Jason...I've always liked it for some reason even though it's awful.

They actually started off doing this! I remember picking up From Dusk Till Dawn on DVD but the cover under the wrap was only french (which worried me a tad). As it turns out, the store was just shipped the french version by mistake, and the cover was reversible/english only on the other side. Something made them change this though. They're definately uglier with both languages on the same side.

The real problem is that all these Canadian exclusives have been on BD-25s so far with somewhat questionable transfers. Some of these movies may not see a proper release for some time, but I do expect the BDs released in the U.S. to eventually surpass these in quality.

I'm guessing that AQ/PQ of most Canadian releases is exactly the same as U.S., correct? Suddenly the idea of importing a LOT of Canadian BDs appeals to me.

Most films that are BD-50s are on those discs due to extras. The transfers will end up being the same ones used on the US releases I'm sure. The Canadian Alliance blus I have so far look pretty damn good.
