As of yesterday, my PS3 will no longer play anything Blu-ray related. Movies or games, nothing will play. However, DVD's will play perfectly well. I can also play any game that I've downloaded.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what is the best way to fix the problem? |

If you're still under warranty, I'd try shipping it to Sony. They might send you a box for you to send it in if its anything like the XBOX360 red lights of death problem. Or you could try and return it to the place you bought it at if it still falls under the return policy.

I thought the same thing. It happened first with Pineapple Express. After about ten minutes of it playing, either the movie or special features, my PS3 would freeze up and I would have to flip the switch to get it to do anything. It did this three times in a row, then it finally wouldn't load the disc. I tried it with 4 other movies and 2 games, and the only thing that would happen is a "800" Error code would come up. Like I said, it plays regular dvds fine, but not anything BLU-Ray based. |

yeah...supposedly the blu-ray laser breaking is the most common reason for a PS3 to malfunction.
It costs about 150$ for sony to fix, which is quite a bit too.... |

I was thinking it may be the laser, but I was hoping that someone had a miracle fix. I'll look into replacing it myself, but if it's too hard, I'll just bite the bullet and send it to Sony. I need my shit. Thanks everyone for responding swiftly!

I had the same problem, but it eventually stopped playing dvds as well.
I took it to a trusted repair shop, and they told me the laser was dirty (smoke-dust) and misaligned. The fix cost $90CAD (90 day wty.) and took about a week and a half. My 60G has the original single triple lens, the newer PS3's have the dual lens. |
