Default dvd to PSP conversion...

Does anyone know of a free software that I can download to convert my dvd's to PSP format? Everything I have tried gives me the first 5 minutes of the film and that's it. If I want to convert the whole thing I have to buy the software. Is there anything out there that's free and will let me do the whole movie?

Well I tried going to that link but I can't access any "web hosting" sites here at work. Is there direct download link somewhere?

Watch out, I was given a stern warning regarding discussion of this topic on this forum. This despite the fact that many DVDs are not encrypted therefore converting them is not a violation of DMCA.

DMCA do you want to know what i think of most of it...

And i believe(im sure many here feel the same way) that if you bought the DVD and you pay for it, you have every right to rip it and watch in your PSP if you choose to. Is my product that i bought, is hard enought they make me have to brake the encryption and crap.(rant off) Notice the bold, your product, you can watch it where and when you want, not share it or give it away to everyone.

I do not condone getting a pirate DVD or stealing it from sites.

So let me get this straight. If I OWN a dvd that I bought with my own cash and I want to put that dvd on a PSP that I also bought with my own cash, that's considered a violation of the law?

it is not illegal to copy a dvd that you have purchased...the illegal part is the removal of the region encoding or CSS.

I believe what their lawyer would tell you is that you don't own the movie. You only own the disc that the movie is on. Your purchase grants you a license to watch the movie under certain restrictions.

Having said that, I use DVD Decryptor to make .VOB file of the movie, and then use 3GP to convert the .VOB into an AVC MP4, which the PSP will play.

I personally don't have any ethical problems doing this to DVDs that I have purchased. However, I would not do it to a rented or borrowed DVD, because that is clearly piracy.

I use Handbrake too, except I get the occasional skip when playing them back on the PSP (they're fine when playing back on the computer). It especially happens when there's a lot going on onscreen.

Anyone else have this problem?

they only way they could find out you did this is if you told them or someone and they tell the police.
they take your psp for some reason and go thru it.

Or you make a thread asking how to do it. You then do it and they somehow track you down and take your psp and go thru it.

Other than that have fun.

I think it's ridiculous if they consider it illegal to convert your dvd to be able to play it on your other devices. Anyways, thanks for the tips for the converter programs. I bought a psp for the kid and need to be able to convert a couple of his favorite dvd's (ones he already owns ).

The version of Handbrake that I use works great for encoding, but for some reason I cannot configure it to keep the OAR of the movie that I am ripping. The movie's aspect ratio is distorted to fit the PSP screen fully. I am annoyed by this because I am an OAR Nazi Snob.
