Default Digital Copies of Movies

Okay I've got several of these laying around. The Dark Knight being one of them. I just redeemed the code from iTunes onto my HP laptop and downloaded the movie into my library.

However when I try to move it to my iPod Touch it says my computer is not authorized? What the heck does that mean and how do I authorize it?

My question is what the hell do I do after the downloading is complete? Eject the disc and throw it away? Or is there any reason to keep the disc?

There's no reason to keep the disc once it's on your computer unless it has bonus features on it.

Just go store on the top of Itunes and select authorize computer. That should do it.

Once you get the copy from the disc, it's trash. Unless it's a bonus features disc.

Lol alright. It worked. I love digital copies. It's a nice bonus IMO...especially considering the prices for bluray movies...

I like digital copies too.

I noticed that they're appearing on DVD releases as well.

In my opinion, the "digital copy" in its current incarnation is garbage... and I mean that almost LITERALLY. The digital copy feature should be included as a download option FROM THE INTERNET. The digital copy code should be used online to access a download copy. There is no need to put the digital copy on a disc. Anyone who wants to use the digital copy of the movie will already have a computer anyway. And, almost everyone with a computer these days has internet access anyhow. They are printing millions of discs that are just being thrown into landfills once the code is used.

Also, there are going to be plenty of people (of which I am one) who don't even bother with the digital copy. And, what about those people that buy the movie AFTER THE DIGITAL COPY EXPIRATION DATE? That's correct. Codes can't be used after a certain date to transfer the file off of the disc. Those all end up in the landfill without even being used.

Someone needs to get this word to the studios. It's a logical decision to make the digital copy an internet download feature.

Some very good points. When I was doing my first digital copy, I wondered why the "download" went so fast, then I realized, "Duh, they put the file on the disc." While this is convenient for those with very slow Internet connections, for those who are genuinely interested in the digital copy, they should have a decent connection which they can use to download the movie as you stated.

And what you're saying about throwing away discs is so true! With everyone "going green" these days, one would think they would avoid superfluous discs. Oh well, my Dark Knight digital copy will make a nice coaster as you said

Doesn't digital copy disks hold two trys at your copy? As in you get to activate the code twice so if you change your computer or whatever...I'm not sure though.

i think this thread should be sticked as we seem to see a digital copy thread pop up every couple of months, etc.

i must have missed this in previous threads, the copies expire?? that's crazy! i am holding onto a few digital copies because i'm not sure if i will ever throw them on my iphone but i guess i better copy them over soon. can always watch them on my laptop. =/

i like that they throw the movie on a separate disc. sure an internet download would be better and "more green," but this is faster and more convenient.

I have several digital copies that I have yet to put on my computer. Expiration dates? Guess I better get those copied.
My question is what format is it once it's on the computer and will I be able to put it on my Archos? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I absolutely 100% agree with you. I don't think digital copy is even necessary because

1) When I want to watch blu ray, I watch it in Full Blown 1080p quality with lossless sound. Can not do that with a digital copy!!

2) If you have the right programs you can RIP FULL DVD quality movies in to your comp, PSP..etc. It will take more memory but you get better quality than the digital copy.

3) If you studios are providing us with digital copy, why not make it for unlimited uses. We already paid for the movie!!
