Default ps3 is stuffed up HELP!!

hey everybody,

i was playing my ps3 yesterday online and it was working fine, until today wen i woke up. I turned on my ps3 and it seemed to be slow at the set-up part, but i thought this wasn't a problem, until i tried playing cod4, it showed the ps3 intro then the screen just goes black. I have been using 1080p because i have a HDMI cable. It has been working fine until now. The picture also keeps flickering when i am at the set up. I have also tried in putting another game in, but the same problem occurs. i have turned the ps3 on and off, it is still the same.
Why is this happening?? Why is the set-up so slow?? Why does it go blank when i try to play a game??

please help me!!

NEW PROBLEM HELP!!

Hey everybody,

One of my ps3 accts(not my PSN acct) does not let me play any games and the part were it has setting and all that is really slow and freezes.

But for some reason this is only haapening to one of my Ps3 accts, my brothers works absolutely fine.

HOW do i fix this?

try switching out for your cable that came with it....also...try resetting the ps3...turn it off, and when you turn it back on, hold the button down..this must be done at the PS3 itself...it will beep twice and go to default mode..

What do you mean by "I have been using 1080p because I'm using an HDMI cable"? You need to make sure that your TV supports 1080p most of all, and next, that the PS3 game you are playing supports 1080p.

In the display settings, you need to have 720p and 1080p selected if your TV supports it.

Not all PS3 games support 1080p. In-fact, only a few actually do. I really don't have the numbers for you, but less than half of my collection support 1080p, and just 720p.

However, if you have any unsupported resolutions selected in the display settings of the PS3, then it should just default to the crappy 540 or whatever "bare-minimal" resolution.

If you have a game that you KNOW supports 1080p (if it mentions it on the back of the box) along with the proper supporting TV, then you deselect 720p in the display settings, and the game will upscale to 1080p. Why you have to do this manually is something that Sony should have resolved.

This all above is strictly speaking if you've messed with the display settings of the PS3.

Otherwise, common logic tells me this of your situation:

1) My PS3 plays great
2) I bought an HDMI cable for my PS3
3) My PS3 doesn't display anymore

= HDMI cable is the problem, or the display settings of the PS3.

I never heard of an HDMI cable not being able to support 1080p.

It is likely that that cable that came with the PS3 was fine enough...

I don't understand how a HDMI cable could be "Laggy" either...

what data? cause your trophies are on the PS servers. If nothing important is on there, back-up your game saves and delete the account from the PS3 and then re-add it.

What in THE hell have you done to your PS3?

It doesn't even make sense that "setup" is laggy because of a user account signed on to PSN? Unless of course you mean there's a delay while waiting for the account to sign into the playstation network - and if that's taking awhile it could be because you have the wrong password/bad internet connection.

Your screen flickering, etc... is a bad HDMI cable or loosely connected cable.

Darn kids and their interwebs trying to play on their 'puters.
