I picked up Lost S3 and 20 Million Miles to Earth today for $30 total.
The blu ray area was almost cleaned out but I think you'll be able to find some great deals. Everything in the store is 50 percent off. I know they're normally over priced. But, this sale is awesome!!! |

Are they going out of business too?

Yes, half of their stores are liquidating right now. From what I understand, the rest of the stores will be closing soon too. Keep an eye out for these sales cause they are awesome. All their "trend" stuff like figures, shirts, posters are 75 percent off. I could have easily spent a few hundred dollars in that joint.
I paid $18.00 for Lost S3 and $10 for 20 Million Miles to Earth. I should have picked up a few more but was trying to control my spending. My Blu addiction is out of control!!!! |

I think that it would be dumb to say that FYE didn't want to compete with BB or Amazon. Of course they wanted to, and of course they wanted a chance to stay in business. It is all about buying power and relationships, and some companies do not have either. If BB or Amazon can buy a blu at 25% less than the competition, then they can sell it at 25% less than the competition. That is simple business.

I have one of the few 'BIG' FYE's closest to me. No sales there today. I figure that would be one of the last to close though. I'll have to check out some more stores around me. Wonder if there is a list of closing stores online somewhere...
Nice deals! |

If FYE is/does close down, it is amazing to me that so many here at Blu-ray.com take such glee in the closing of Circuit City and now possibly FYE. That is just unforgivable behavior.

I understand the excitement about lower prices but come on, we're talking about jobs right now. This isn't some great sale. It's at the expense of people's lives. |

do you actually have a link where it says they are closing for good? or are you just speculating? cause i haven't heard anything of the sort about them closing. and i was just in there a week or so ago. really? why do this without some credible information. i think jwbbud is right. Quote:
they were competitive with amazon and best buy as best they could be. they don't have the low overhead and such that amazon has so they can't just be crazy with their prices. and they don't selling anything but entertainment related items. no real big ticket items like best buy. so they are not going to be able to slash prices like best buy does. best buy makes no money on their entertainment section. it's a loss leader to get people in the stores to buy their big ticket items. with that in mind, i think f.y.e. has done a incredible job on pricing. they've usually got movies cheaper than best buy and amazon and their cd prices are really cheap compared to most places. i only hope the news of them closing is just made up based on heresay and speculation. to loose another brick and mortar store will not do good for the economy and for us in the future. what happens when everything goes the way of the internet? we will be at the mercy of those who control it and at the mercy of those who wish to hurt us. if the internet were to go down we'd all be in a world of hurt. i really would like to keep brick and mortar stores around. i don't want to be in a future that cold. |

I don't know if I would go so far as to say they do 'an incredible job on pricing', but I fully understand why their prices are the way they are. Stores that only sell/primarily sell movies and music cannot discount those items on the same level. It's just not in the cards for them. Best Buy sells many other items to make a profit. FYE does not. So, they don't have the luxury of lower prices. Quote:
Once in a while they might have a good sale (I seem to recall a BOGO on DVD TV box sets that was pretty good at one point). But other times, not so much. Often time, when a new DVD or BD comes out that you can get for a good sale price on Amazon or Best Buy, you can get it for roughly that same price at Fye AFTER a mail-in rebate. So, there's extra hoops to jump through and time to wait for just to get the same savings that you would get right away elsewhere. Again, I'm not knocking them for their prices, but I certainly don't find their prices to be cheaper than Best Buy or Amazon. Quote:
In fact, I was at Wal-Mart just the other day, and they had the Director's Cut of Daredevil for about $15 on Blu-Ray. I had heard a lot of good things about the director's cut version, but had never seen it (the only version I already had was the theatrical DVD). So, since it was an upgrade in both the version of the movie AND the format, I went ahead and got it. |
