Default DS and PSP discussion

What does everyone think of the newest handhelds? PSP has finally broke the what 15-20 year monopoly on the handheld market. I think its doing rather well considering the competition I own a PSP myself and the screen is really beautiful and the graphics are nice. They have quite a few good titles as well.

Sales figures for those curious...

Nintendo DS - 6.65 million
PSP - 5.06 million

Software sales

PSP Software(games no movies)
Japan - 3,700,000
America - 6,900,000
Total - 10,600,000

DS Software
Nintendo DS - 15,820,000

The PSP was in the lead briefly until Nintendogs hit the market and really gave DS a crazy boost.

You've got sales from july, they are a little bit old because the PSP didn't have hit the Europe... If you want some numbers about the sales in Europe, here are those I know :

- 386 000 consoles sold in 4 days (France, UK & Germany only)

You can add that to the 5.06 millions... But you know, it was more than a month ago...

I bought a USA PSP on it's release. However, as nice as the graphics are etc., I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather play games at home on my 26" HDTV with 5.1 surround. I don't really have the need for a portable games machine as when I'm out of the house I rarely feel like playing games. This will be epecially true when the next gen of consoles launch with 720p/1080i.

Have just sold my PSP + 4 games and accesories for £250. Another £30 and I'll have enough for a 360 main pack. Have an ipod nano so don't need it for MP3s, use my pc for internet and photo's, and home cinema system for movies. It's a great bit of kit, but as it doesn't do anything I can't do at home, I'd rather wait til I am.

Right, I've made a research recently to find some new turnovers and sales but as far as I get, there is nothing that recently... I will try to find that when, as you say, GTA LCS will be coming for the PSP

When I bought my PSP I had started a new job. I had a lot of free time, more than I do now. Up to 4 hours on occasion. The PSP seemed like the perfect item to fill that free time. Games, movies, music etc. However, it's too noisy at work to watch movies, and the novelty of playing games on a small screen wore off after a while. The main thing for me, was that using a PSP at work was anti-social and as a social person I tended to play cards more, or have conversations with colleagues. Now I've started management training I really just don't have the time. It's not that I don't like playing games on it etc, just it's more sensible to sell it especially when I can play the same sorts of games at home on a bigger screen.

Gorkab & Rob:

Let's play nice. I don't want to suspend or ban either of you. Each of you has made a lot of good input to this forum. So please refrain from belittling each other and namecalling. You guys are better than that.

Thank you.

personally i think its funny when people argue on boards, since they're never going to see the person, its pretty much getting mad at words.

I have edited my post. Got £250 for my PSP bundle in the end. Not bad when you consider it only cost me £285 brand new.

Comparing sales is quite hard because more often than not, a product will take longer to reach globally and there for having slower sales

While on the other hand another competing product might be instintainous...

In any case, I can clearly be seen that the PSP is far superior in hardware that the Nintendo DS. Not to mention on how long the DS has been released for while the PSP is only a few months old).

In my opinion Sony just seems to have everything up their sleeves no-matter what rival companies do.

I agree with you, I think that nothing is settled since we don't have the sales of Europe for the PSP

I find it very sad that the only reason that DS is going to win is based off the games Nintendogs, Nintencats, and Pokemon and thats it. I know lots of little kids like gameboy but it just upsets me. :(

The N64 was partially a failure but with Pokémon games, it helped the console not to be a complete one.... :?

EDIT : Japanese sales charts show handheld trends
