would and could the PS3 ever send Bitstream through HDMI ? So i can have HDMI and have my reciever decode it for me. Just wonder if it could and will a future firmware ever be released to do so?

From what I've heard its the HDMI chipset that doesn't allow it.

Bitstreaming HD audio and deep color are both optional features of the HDMI 1.3a spec. The PS3 incorporated deep color, but not HD bitstreaming.

From everything I've read, correct. It is impossible in the PS3's current hardware configuration for it to bitstream. It would require different hardware and thus is not likely to occur anytime soon, if ever.

Why not just enjoy the fact that you get to hear the HD audio, regardless of what little lights come up on your receiver? It does a fantastic job.

is that the only difference? the big reason i ask is that i had a str dg720 upgraded to the 920, and wanted to enjoy the upgrade. but if the ps3 will decode for both i guess it was no big deal. only a 14$ differnce which is why i upgraded anyway, lol. but i guess that does put my mind to ease

Yes, the light on the receiver is the only difference. The PCM produced by decoding a lossless track is the same regardless of where it is decoded. All of the processing happens after decoding and it is all done in the receiver.

thousands of other threads about this. I'm not criticizing, just maybe you'd want to be a bit more specific in the title of your thread is all.

Hate to sound like a wise guy, but the OP didn't specifically ask about bitstreaming HD codecs. I use my PS3 to bitstream DTS and DD for dvds. I know it's not necessary, but sometimes you can't hear people talking when you send DTS and DD over LPCM. Just music and sound effects. Never have this problem when I bitstream dvds to my receiver. (Doesn't occur often anyway, but it's nice to have options.)

Sounds like you have something misconfigured, as I have never had this happen. Almost sounds like a loose centre channel speaker cable.

Never had this occur. You've got an issue somewhere in your setup. I typically don't switch over to bitstream when watching DVD's and have never experienced this issue.
