I'm not from CA, but look at this ridiculous thing from IMdB:

14 April 2009 2:47 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The Consumer Electronics Association has warned that a proposal by the staff of the California Energy Commission to cut energy consumption in the state by imposing strict energy-use rules on sales of television sets would see many, if not most, wide-screen TV sets becoming unavailable in the state. The Cea said that if the plan is put into effect, around 80 percent of all wide-screen digital TV sets would be eliminated. The CEA also observed that if the ban went into effect, it could also bring about massive job losses and reduce state sales tax collections by $50 million.

Not really surprised considering it's CA. They are big about "green" and this is just another thing to rally around, like emission standards. If they do go ahead and pass this bill.....it will be a real shame. I can't believe they can't make some kind of energy adaptor to regulate energy consumption, like they do with emissions. To completely pass this bill without any alternatives is what I would find truly ridiculous.

exactly. they will lose on sales tax and then you'd have to get them from somewhere else. Say a driving tax?

This from the state that wants to ban the sale of cars with black paint because they put off too much heat. What a bunch of whack jobs we have in our legislature. They should all be run out of the state like the small businesses and jobs they've chased away.
