has things realy changed... - I know how some of the people ..on here refuse to view the strength's of blu-ray...AND SAY THE Consumer will choose which will win...normaly i would agree..but in this case...the IT and electronics industry has already made the choice for the Consumer..you may not like it..but Blu-Ray will be the replacement of the RED laser DVD optical drive. THE BIG POINT HAS ANYTHING REALY CHANGED FOR HD-DVD since 2004, has the HD-DVD promotional group lost some support...DOES NEC make HD-DVD drive's now..does NEC make BLU-RAY drives..when your CO-VICE CHAIR start's makeing "BLU-RAY" drives..that kind of puts it into perspective

a little history:
joeorc responds on 2007-04-29 13:06:41.0:

http://www.nec.co.jp/press/en/0208/2901.html Main Content Press Release *****For immediate use August 29th, 2002 Toshiba and NEC Jointly Propose Next Generation, High Capacity, Blue-Laser DVD Format.... Report inappropriate content
what NEC did in 2002

joeorc responds on 2007-04-29 13:10:22.0: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/periphera...ght-245906.php what nec is doing now.....Sony/NEC's Optiarc Busts Out Five Blu-ray Burners at CeBIT, No HD DVDs in Sight 1.. Wed March 21 2007.. that's the CVO-VICE CHAIR OF THE HD-DVD PROMOTIONAL GROUP.... WHEN YOUR CO-vice chair starts creating "blu-ray optical drives" HD-DVD is in Trouble

here is the rep:
Helen responds on 2007-04-29 13:38:14.0: Toshiba Combo Drive w Samsung "While it is not lending its name to the new Samsung player, it's likely that Toshiba will be lending its technology for the combo player. This carries through an underlying trend of companies covering all their bases in the format war". The combo drive is made by Toshiba Samsung Storage Technologies (TSST). Well, at least Toshiba can profit from a Blu-Ray player.

joeorc responds on 2007-04-29 14:14:35.0: thank's Helen...for posting that.i was not going to post it..but since you did...NO MATTER what the PEOPLE who will say Blu-Ray is going to loose...against HD-DVD when the creators of HD-DVD are not even SHURE...you have to have confidence in you OWN format or you will fail..

joeorc responds on 2007-04-29 14:17:55.0: what is Toshiba going to tell the investors of HD-DVD...well yes we have SAMSUNG produceing BLU-RAY optical drives out of our plant..well the investors response..why not more HD-DVD optical drives than..."well investors there is cheap HD-DVD drives comeing out of CHINA..investors...how does that help us...?

Sombra responds on 2007-04-29 15:27:24.0: So times can change. 3 years later: Its nearly funny that this year BluRay will have to fight for its survival. no 2nd generation player are ready and the content is still just announced....BD+ waits for its introduction and the trojan horse PS3 has a borderline flop status right now...

joeorc responds on 2007-04-29 15:35:36.0: BLU-RAY fight for it's survival..wow..Did you not see the post or read..the CO-FOUNDER'S of the HD-DVD format is not makeing HD-DVD optical drives..if anyone is fighting for survival its HD-DVD...what is TOSHIBA going to tell the investors.at least SONY has SOLD OVER 2 MILLION "BLU-RAY DISC'S FOR THE BDA" just in games an over 1.2 million in MOVIES sales..in the short ammount of time on the market..where as HD-DVD promotional group..has had over a year now an has yet to break a MILLION disc's sold...come on now who is realy fighting for survival...spin it anyway you want..but when your CO-VICE chair makes the "other format" to the HD-DVD promotional group's HD-DVD investors that does not look good in board meetings.

joeorc responds on 2007-04-29 15:49:13.0: the PLAYSTATION 3 boarderline flop status...i am glad you pulled that opinion out of your @ss. and try to pass it along as fact..since when does selling over 100,000 units a month in any production company a flop..in any company..hey there there are only 2 other company's makeing GAME SYSTEMS...so even if your # 3 it does not matter as long as you can sell units..HELL even the first xbox sold 24 million an people call that a flop..no what make's it a flop is they IE: Microsoft kicked the first xbox to the curb..after only (4 years) Hell atleast with Sony the developer's know they can put out games for 10 years for the playstation...ask a developer what about the xbox...he is not so shure of...example a brand new xbox360 with HDMI..you know the port that MICROSOFT said the "consumer does'nt need..or just like the HD-DVD you know the consumer "does'nt need HD-DVD...right if i WAS Toshiba that is the company i would want backing me up on a new optical drive that i want to be the future of DVD..right..HD-DVD could have been a great format i even admit that but NOO Microsoft has in their vast wisdom WANTS TO KEEP THE NEW OPTICAL MEDIA split so they can get a firm control of digital downloads..an Toshiba is right along with them..SO acording to Microsoft no matter what both HD-DVD an Blu-Ray are not the future DIGITAL DOWNLOADS are...yea once again that's the company i realy want helping support my new optical drive...unless they realy don't care about their new optical drive.....!
