I don't know if there is a similar thread to this or not but my questions to you'all is:
What is your favorite part to a movie and why? Is it the: Actors Storyline (Script) Soundtrack Cinematography Special Effects (Graphics and Sounds) Genre Franchise (Bond, Star Wars, LOTR, etc.) And any other part of a movie that I forgot to list... For me it would be the soundtrack. I could listen to movie soundtracks all day long. I think some are just so amazing and have the ability to pull you into the movie even farther. A good soundtrack to me is key to a movie. But I would just like to know if there is anyone else out like me or what other qualities they look for in a movie? |

For me it has to have a good story. If the story is sucks, the movie will. I know you have franchise listed, but look at those titles the story was amazing. They drew you in, made you feel like you were part of the action.
As for soundtrack, one movie that stands out in my mind right now is Wanted. The song selection and the music really went well with that movie. |

Hi,
For me, the most important thing is the storyline. I find that these days, too much emphasis is put on special effects which I think have ruined many films. It really bugs me when the camera jumps around all of the place, like on a car chase when the cameras on the side of the car, then suddenly on a trash can that gets hit, then on a drain cover as the car drives over it etc. I would much prefer an aerial shot so I could actually see whats going on. I'm not saying special effects ruin a film, period, but I just think at times they detract from the quality of a film, if that makes any sense. This is only my opinion, and obviously there are many exceptions, but I seem to be finding this more and more (or is this just a sign of me getting older!) Kelly |

1. Actors (or more importantly, the acting)
2. The Script (movie with a bad script never works) 3. Cinematography / Director (if a director that I don't like is doing the project, I doubt I would ever see it.) 4. Genre (I always give comedies a chance ![]() 5. Special Effects (Good Special Effects can make or break some movies, just imagine Jurassic Park with the CG of Mortal Kombat: Annilation ![]() The most important thing is the acting because if the acting can't draw you into the film, you won't be interested in anything else. |

Well first of all for a movie to be any good at all, you have to have a good script. With out a good script the movie has no chance what so ever of being good. Acting is also critical, with out good acting a movie will never be considered "great" or "award worthy". I also think that to have a good movie you need a very good director who knows what he/she is doing and is completly dedicated to the film. Cinematograhy intrests me the most but I don't think it is a critical in the process of making a good movie as the elements I just listed. You can get by with a mediocre cinematography and still have a good movie.

A good script and storyline first. Then a good director is needed. Those are the 2 most important IMO. Good actors help, but as long as the movie has a good director he/she can make anyone into a good actor most of the time. Look at Shelly Duvall in The Shining. Not the greatest actress by any means but with Kubrick behind the camera she made the role of Wendy work.

I picked screenplay, because my favorite parts are the story and the dialogue. I'd probably put the actors toward the bottom of what I find important, because outside of a few actors that I actually like, I don't care enough about others to want to see their movies.
Also, sometimes I tend to get distracted by famous actors, and think "that's so-and-so playing this character" rather than really believing the character. In that sense, it's sometimes nice to have a movie full of people I've never seen/heard of, as opposed to seeing Nicolas Cage movies, where I just see Nicolas Cage and his ridiculous hair pretending to be different people. |
