With only a 4" difference, I'd say that doesn't really apply. Always go bigger, if you can afford it. I've got a 58" plasma in an average sized room, and there is no way I'd go smaller (but I'm spoiled, now

Go with the most you can afford and willing to spend... If you can afford the bigger one, get it. You know how little you will feel if you find out your neighbors unit is bigger then yours...

yeah i'd get that for 1980(thats with the 10% coupon) the 50'' Pioneer is worth the little extra you might have to spend.

I'd check out your local CC today and see what liquidation sales they have going on. I bet they may have some good deals. I wash I was in the market for something when I went to the Tweeter liquidation sale last year. They had some REALLY good prices.
