Hey, when Blu-ray succeeds and penetrates the video market like DVD, most everything will end up on BD. To everybody who asks : when is my favorite movie gonna be in Blu-ray, the format has just been introduced (8 months ago and 1 player) and the PS3 and the other players started to be introduced 2 or three months ago. You can't expect the 20,000 films in Leonard Maltin's Video Guide to just show up en masse in the first year! Just releasing a tenth of that would signify 200 new releases per month. We're doing about 25 now. It'll take some time. DVD wasn't built in a single day, you know?

Your point is well made but imagine how awesome GF1&2 will look with careful treatment.

we can imagine, but that is totally seperate from the point. we can't have every movie the date that a format is released.

Maybe this time they won't rush the set. The DVDs were spotty in a lot of places; it'd be nice to see a cleaned up print.

Well the last time I saw The Godfather on a theater (I think it was the "restored" print) (From Scorsese?) it was what people on another visual sites would call a little grainy so I don't know how the negatiive will transtale for the average video supporter . ( To me, on an adjusted (by me ) TV, the DVDs looked better than that print in all respects except of course resolution and size.)

The movies being 1.85, they should look great on 1038 x 1920!

What I'd like to see is also the chronological Saga! (With everything really chronological this time, last time Francis put a scene out of chrono order, which bugged some people )

Definitely a "post format war" title and series.

The transition from DVD to Blu-ray is going to be far more problematic from VHS to DVD. Quality wise there wasn't much between VHS and DVD and poor transfers / bad film stock were not that noticeable, we have already seen what happens when that policy is applied to BD, so expect delays with the older movies in particular.

I read somewhere back that Lowery Digital had remastered these in HD. I take that to mean there is a HD master somewhere and it will probably see release when the war is over.

Default The Godfather or Scarface on Bluray?

if any1 has any information on either of these 2 moviez, it would be appreciated.

Im curious since both are older movies, how they'd look in high definition.

Your best bet is to view the Dog Day Afternoon BD for some idea how these '70s films look given the blu-ray treatment. DDA is the only blu-ray I know of in mono, but it still sounds much better than any other version.

I'd buy GFI, GFII and Scarface on blu-ray.

The Godfather movies are Paramount, so sooner or later yes on both formats, but Paramount is not releasing catalog titles at a record pace.

Scarface is Universal, so only on HD DVD and was rumored to be out the last quarter of this year, info from the private rumor board at AVS.

As far as how they would look, hit or miss, we won't know until they come out.

Even more reason to hope Universal goes neutral in that time frame!

My guess is that Godfather 1&2 would not look very good on BD. Both were pretty dark films.

Not yet. It took like five years from the introduction of DVD before GF was available. Patience.

Dude, it's still in the theaters! We're hoping for a same-day blu-ray/DVD release but have to wait and see what the studio says in the DVD announcement.
