"Microsoft responds to Sony, says company "is out of touch" By Andrew Webster | Published: January 21, 2009 - 10:43AM CT While the PlayStation 3 may be sitting behind the Xbox 360 in terms of systems sold, that hasn't stopped Sony from expressing its superiority over the competition. While speaking with OPM (via CVG), SCE chairman Kazuo Hirai explained how the Xbox lacks longevity, and said that "there's no way that at the end of a life cycle our competition is going to have a higher install base." It's possible. After all, 10 years is a long time. But Microsoft isn't taking these comments lying down. "This sounds like an old hardware company that’s comfortable with its market position," Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told Bitbag. "That complacent attitude is out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today. This generation won't be won over just hardware specs, but who can out-innovate when it comes to online and software. This is the kind of stuff that's in our DNA, and frankly moves the console war onto our home court." Of course, Greenberg couldn't resist the opportunity to take his own parting shot at Sony, saying that "I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us. In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014." Obviously only time will tell who comes out the winner, but it's always fun to watch corporate executives exchanging shots. If nothing else, this competition is great for consumers, as it means that the two companies will constantly be trying to out do each other throughout the current console generation" I don't really know about this statement, all I can say is it might be true IF Sony really waits about 5-6 more years before it comes out with something else, cause I think Microsoft will come out with another console way before Sony does. So Sony won't win during the 360s life cycle. If they both come out with a console soon this will probaly fair the same way for Sony and the PS3 unless they drasticly reduce prices. But who knows only time will tell |
