Why does my PS3 keep freezing? - Blu-ray Forum

At first I thought it was an issue with littleBIG planet. It kept "glitch" like freezing, then eventually it got to where it would freeze and cause a restart.

I thought it was only that game but now fallout 3 is doing it too. It seriously freezes for over a minute before it finally does what I want it to do. Generally it's during shooting.

It's not hot to the touch, at all. And the fan isn't going too hard.

1) Why?
2) How do I stop it?
3) It's not messing the games up is it?

Fallout3 freezed on me a couple times also. or when i go into a room it loads for a long time.

Sometimes my PS3 has trouble starting up. It's happened 3 times in the 5 weeks I've had it.

even though they system might not feel hot you might have it suffocating if you have it in a closed space, its best to have it side ways in an open area. And or it might be dusty on the inside and could use a nice cleaning with a can of air. I think its a good idea to clean at least once a month or so just to be on the safe side.

sideways? would that mean up standing on its side? or flat?

It's on top of the table with the TV. That's it. about 8-10 inches from the wall...

Ratchet and Clank froze on me sporadically but nothing big. If your PS3 keeps freezing on all games maybe you should check with Sony cause it's not supposed to do that.

Hmm, depending on which model you have the PS3 has got a cleaning mechanism which will clear out dust from the system by putting all of the fans into overdrive.

Works on 40GB and new 80GB.

Don't try any other methods on the older models as it can ruin you PS3.

Maybe a hard drive reset is in order? backup files first though if attempting

My PS3 would randomly lock up on me while playing games. If i'd wait long enough (30sec - 1min) it would resume playing. All of a sudden my PS wouldn't recognize any BD based disk in the XMB bar. All the PS1, PS2, and SD dvd's played fine. In my particular case, it seems that my 80gb b/c PS3 BD laser died. I received a shipping box from Sony and sending it out on Monday. If your PS3 is still under your 1yr warranty send it in. If not i'll cost you $149 for them to fix it.

I remember this Guy was Haveing a problem with his Ps3 .I asked him where it was placed he said "Well on top of my Subwoofer"

Mine freezes a lot too. Theres some maps i cant even play in Call of Duty 4... Not that it really matters, since that game was terrible. Resistance 2 likes to freeze in Split-screen Chicago 60-player skirmish matches sometimes as well. And LittleBigPlanet is... well, lets not go there.
This was never a problem before 2.40...

Oh, and how could i forget the classic freezing when you go to send a message to somebody?

Though, that happens to everybody i know that has a PS3.
Honestly, Sony needs to fix the freezing issues bad. I have a 60GB model. But my friend's 40 gig freezes non-stop (especially during Fallout 3.

), and my other friend's 80 gig runs flawlessly. ...Completely perfect.

Though, still... its just those games.

Everything else is perfect.

check the vents for dust, if they are clogged, use a can of air to clean them

how much space surrounds the ps3? do you have enough ventilation around it?

Well, I do. Its on a gaming stand. It's practically floating in the air... There's plenty of room for air to escape. I might actually try airing it out. Never even thought of that for some reason.

I have a launch 60... so I can't really get the warranty anymore... I know that Sony will fix it for a price, but I don't really know the problem, so I don't want them telling me that need all kinds of stuff done when I don't. It's the skeptic in me.

The PS3 can breathe... I'm going to take a vacuum to it tomorrow and see what's what. But it's really annoying. I love the machine, I just want it to run how it's supposed to.

Mine has been Freezing a lot lately too. I'm waiting on the shipping tag to send it in for repairs(extended Warranty).

Mine started with a freeze trying to load a Blu-Ray. Then next day played like 2hrs of R2 then froze on me and ever since then have been having intermittent issues. The Game will freeze after a co-op match for like 5min and then load up again, sometimes it doesn't and need a reset and then sometimes doesn't even recognize a disc is in the machine.
