Default PS3 Display Problem

Okay I cannot for the life of me figure this out. When I watch my Blu-rays everything is fine and perfect. However, when I try to watch ANYTHING from the Blu-rays that is in standard definition, the PS3 like reconfigures itself and all the SD content is displayed on the screen in the 4:3 ratio. So for instance if it is a trailer accessed through Universal's Blu-ray live, it squeezes the image into a 4:3 aspect ratio. Why does it do this? How do I fix it?

this is a long shot. BUT just maybe the extra's your talking about might purposlly be in that format. Some blu have the extr'a in HD but other have them in Standard. Not sure if that pertains to your issue tho.

PS3s have a weird quirk—they'll upconvert DVDs, but they won't upconvert SD material on a Blu-ray. As far as I know, they absolutely will never do it. Sometimes the SD material is 4:3 anyway, so it just looks ugly; sometimes it's 16:9 but the PS3 keeps it at 4:3, which means it's squished as well. There's nothing you can do about it in the PS3 settings, but if your HDTV can stretch out images to fill the screen, that's the time to do it.

its just keeping the original aspect ratio. the extras that never appear in HD are always in 4:3 format because they were not made in widescreen or in HD. or maybe they appear in SD due to lack of space of space on the disc

No, some SD extras are 16:9.
