Default Ubisoft ramping up for new generation of consoles in 2012

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...nsoles-in-2012

Quote:
Ubisoft has said that it expects a new generation of home consoles to be on the market by 2012.

The French publisher is increasing headcount to work on future technology, with mergers also on the cards to increase development and technology resources.

"We want to take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands," said CEO Yves Guillemot.

"So we have now enough to help us to grow the company for not only next year but to get ready for the coming of the next generation consoles that are probably going to happen 2011, 2012.

"We have to be ready for that, we are already hiring people and buying some technology and looking at some brands as well," he revealed.

And following major success with new IP Shaun White's Snowboarding, Guillemot confirmed the company will soon announce the acquisition of a new sports property to increase Ubisoft's standing in the genre.

"It's really an achievement for us and it's helping us to consider that it's possible to take some share of that business," said Guillemot of the success in the sports market.

"And we will soon announce that we will make a little bit of a merger and acquisition on that front. It's a small one but it will show you that we want to invest more in that direction," he added.
maybe this will shut some people up about when the new consoles are coming

Their guess is as good as ours. Also, I didn't know there was much argument about when the next consoles were coming out. I thought we all pretty much agreed they'd come out in 2011 or 2012.

Ubisoft and EA are two companies that deserve to go bankrupt in this economy.

I'm a sucker for GRAW games, other than that I don't want to jump next gen that soon.

EA? Why EA? They have been awesome this gen, Dead Space is brilliant, and as much as I hate to say it Fifa is pretty good this year too...

Ubisoft, yeah, but it seems unlikely as all of the that Imaginezzz range is doing amazing numbers on the DS/Wii...

Ubisoft rock! Can't wait for I Am Alive, Assassin's Creed 2, and even Beyond Good & Evil 2. Any company who develops new IPs with high production values like Ubisoft and definitely EA deserve kisses. :P

2012 is too early for me. I guess it's still 3 years away, but I just don't want to have to buy another console just to wait a year for it's game library to build up and features get ironed out.

This hobby sucks!

Sounds about right.

PS2 launched in 2000, ps3 2006.

Yep and I would've been completely happy if we were still in PS2 days. Not that I'm not enjoying the PS3 (I like it more then the PS2 actually), I just don't see the need to go through the launch of a new system every six years when the first 2 years are dedicated to building a decent library, and the last 2 years are dedicated to promoting the NEXT system to come along.

Granted every once in awhile EA and Ubisoft make a good game but it is far and inbetween all the craptastic games they come out with. Sorry to say but most of their crap is just to milk a franchise, nothing worthwhile or spectacular.

Their are far too many other development companies out there that churn out an amazing game after another just for the pure excitement of having people enjoy what they make.

I'll go as far as to say that the Assassin's Creed engine ruined the new Prince of Persia. Oh well.

The problem is that we now have to deal with WII,XBOX and PLAYSTATION.
If there was only sony well they can take forever and no one but graphic *****'s would care. Xbox seems to be going down sega's path of first out and first out of date. Xbox 1 was prematurely killed forcing people to 360.

Nintendo's doing whatever they want and not really playing the same game as ms and sony. Read-HD gaming/set-top boxes.

Myself i have a love - hate relationship with games because the ebay vultures
ruin year 1 ,if there are any good games worth playing, then games like GOW
appear only for the hardware to disappear. I'd sooner get a great ps2 game over a p.o.s ps3 game but if you don't move on some1 will force you to send out
the next wave of hardware. Genesis+sega cd+32x=time for saturn which does
poorly next to psone time for dreamcast-ps2 hype killed that system within 2 years.

If the econimy doesn't inprove i can't see running out to replace a young platform like ps3 before 2016. GAMES MATTER NOT THE HARDWARE THEY'RE PLAYED ON. Why else would zelda, mario or metroid still be compelling today
like when the nes was new. Graphics fade, sound can become tinny but true
GAMEPLAY lasts FOREVER.

I'm in no rush to replace my current gen ANYTIME SOON.
