Default PS3 still last in sales...but PS2 is still #1

Latest word on console sales...PS3 still selling less than X-Box 360.

The PS3 is still doing enough sales that is should still drive Blu-ray sales. An Xbox sale does not equal an HD-DVD drive. Given the shortages, price, lack of games, the PS3 is doing pretty good. With PS2 sales pretty high, gamers will be able to trade up to a PS3 once the price of the console drops and still be able to play their PS2 games. Looks pretty good for Sony.

Is anyone surprise that given all the reasons not to buy a PS3 now(hefty price tag, not many games, etc.) by huge tech review sites like CNET and opposition to the PS3 by influential media outlets. The xBox 360 is only able to maintain an approximately meager 3 to 2 lead. Once a couple of good titles drop for the PS3 it be might 3 to 3, then who knows after that.......

It all boils down to software. The PS3 has been in a drought of quality software the past few months to be quite honest. Aside from Oblivion, a great game that didn't have as big an impact on the PS3 cause it's a year old, there really wasn't anything else out there. That will change once Lair, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, FFXIII hit the console. So I get the feeling that some people are holding off on buying a PS3 until those games are out the door, maybe hoping that they'll see a pricedrop by then. Wishful thinking about the pricedrop, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the mentality of the casual gaming crowd.

The xbox 360 wasn't doing too stellar last year either. Most sales are in the holday season, the spring is the slow season. Come December, there will be more games, December '08 there will be many more games. It's not like the PS3 is in any danger of having a more powerful system released in the near future to trump it, it's only competing with the xbox 360. The PS3 will be fine.

well resistance fall of man is good and i am having a lot of fun with oblivion so for me i do not know what you are talking about. yeah they are not gta but thats all coming later this year, plus there are still good games for the ps2 which to be honest i have not really seen anything that spectacular on the 360.
Its all a matter of time, i have seen the release chart and pics of up coming games just wait and see. The best money i have spent in a long time, plus i got a Blu-ray player on top of that so what more could i want, how long has the ps3 been out anyway? people can't make a game over night thats going to be any good even if they do a port from the 360, have patients.

The PS3 is in the exact same position with sales and games as the 360 was one year ago. You cant expect a bunch of AAA games to come out so soon after a launch. The only reason Nintendo was able to do that with zelda was that zelda was orignally slated as being a gamecube only game!

It'll take time for the PS3 to get a hold, it's only been out for a short while after all.

I've been impressed with the games I've seen so far, Resistance: Fall of Man is monumental! If this is how the games look right at the start, imagine how good they'll be by the end of this year.

Chrimbo is a huge sales time for any console, and with Blu-ray getting its foot-hold across the globe, one will influence the other and vice-versa sales wise when people are looking for christmas gifts.

It's early days, give it time.

Oh, and I'm off to buy Oblivion this evening (released today in the UK) so that'll be one more game sold. Slow and steady. Hehehehe.

Assassins Creed, GTA IV, Resident Evil 5 and Lair will all make the console more desirable by the end of the year. I also agree with shido about people waiting for a price drop.

Most people where i work don't even know what Blu-Ray is or how much the stand alone players even cost! They all love the look of a PS3 but just say the x-box is cheaper. maybe if BD was advertised more on TV and possibly bill boards joe public would actually click on.

Thumbs up

Sony could sell the PS3 for about 30 % cheaper, i have a bluray player, Sony BPS-1, my friends told me to buy the PS 3 which i should have done. but i didn;t
The PS 3 is cleary better why do they have to charge so much. it probably cost per unit about $200 to make them, charge $400 for them possibly $450, 100% PROFIT woud be great by me not 200% profit @ $599. Someone in marketing really dropped the ball. sorry for complaining i love the blu-ray movies and sony has done a good job but they really stick you with a rusty bayonet when you want to purchase their products even though they may be the best out right now.

So far the PS3 has made a loss, but then that's hardly surprising - it's new. They have to get the cash back to cover investment costs. It'll come down though.

Sony was losing 200-250 a console with the price being 500-600. I think in the next 6 months though that will change. The lower energy running chips will be out, and blu ray diodes are coming down in price.Sonty will be running emulation for BC so that will save on parts. Sony will be able to drop the price at least 100 by the end of the year.

The PS3 will eventually blow up with games. The more the install base grows, the more that games will be made for it. I can't wait. Bring on the exclusives!!!
