Default Samsung 2500 Now Decodes DTS-HD MA!!

Has anyone who has a 2500 tried this yet? I've heard from one thread on here that the player turned into a brick after the update.

If anyone has successfully completed the update and watched a disc, I have a question.

Does it decode it and send it through the HDMI cable, or only through the 7.1 multi-channel analog cables, or both?

That thread was posted earlier this morning and references a firmware update done last night. This new firmware was not available until today so it would have been an older firmware version causing the "brick." (I hope).

I didn't realize that. So has anyone updated the new firmware yet?

I installed it last night. I couldn't get the CD upgrade to work right so I ended up doing the network download which took another 20 minutes to redownload it but it worked that time.

It seems to work fine. No issues so far.

Why don't you use the USB update? It's usually faster than the online update, and much more convenient than the CD update.

I'm lazy and the USB port is on the back. Other than that, I may try it for future versions, but the download time really isn't a big deal. It just irked me since I had already spent 20 minutes downloading the firmware and burning a CD.

It is interesting though that the firmware download takes 20 minutes via network but only about 3-4 to download the CD install to a computer. Maybe the network firmware is larger somehow?

Default Anynet

If you have a Samsung HDTV and you hook up your player with an HDMI cable be carefull during the update download because with the Anynext interface if you want to watch a TV show instead of staring at the update screen it will terminate it when you switch HDMI inputs.

Does anyone know the answer to my original question:

Does it decode it and send it through the HDMI cable, or only through the 7.1 multi-channel analog cables, or both?

It should do it both ways like it does for TrueHD. I don't have an HDMI receiver though so I can't confirm that.

I updated it, and it is causing problems with the control buttons while playing a DVD. While I was watching a DVD, the Stop, Next Track, Previous Track, Fast Forward, Rewind, buttons on the remote control didn't work. The buttons on the player's front panel didn't work either. I haven't tried this with a Blu-ray disc yet. To stop my DVD, I had to press the Eject button, which works. Pretty bad firmware, IMHO.

My 2500 is working perfectly after the update, it even seems to load even faster than before the update.

I noticed this too! Sweet player....although it had trouble jumping to a scene from the scene selection menu. Not a big deal for now.

first time playing a dvd after the update. What happened? I was playing shawshank and it was jumping all over the place and the resolution looked terrible (as if it was upconverting anymore) Someone who has this player please help. One thing I noticed when I put a dvd in and then stopped it...the main samsung screen is all pixelated...even the menu. Anyone else know what I am talking about?

Sorry, but I am having no problems with BD's, DVD's Netflix, or anything.

Keep in mind that after an update the player goes back to its default settings. Just go back in and set it to output at 1080p so that it upconverts the DVD's and you should be good to go.
