I think the Pioneer VSX 1018 deserves to be in the discussing, you can get it for around 430 or a little cheaper. if your looking at that, the Denon and the yamaha, I wouldn't bother with the 606, those are definitely in another league than the 606.

I have the Yamaha V663 and it drives my not so efficient Energy C300 towers superbly well. I have never heard any distortion or clipping from the loudest levels I have listened to on any of my BD movies. The Yamaha V663 is great for music as well as HT. Those V663 pre-outs will come in handy whenever I finally decide to buy a NAD T-955 five channel power amplifier or something very similar.
I have read in other threads great things about the Onkyo 606 and that it drives the Energy C300s very well too. The Onkyo has one more HDMI input if you need it. The V663 has only two. However, my biased opinion is to get the Yamaha. I just simply love Yamaha. ![]() |

I have a 606 and I really like it. It's also my first "real" receiver because my last was a typical HTiB where the receiver was a 5 disc carosel dvd/cd player. I think it put out a whopping 40watts/channel as well, including the sub.
I only make use of 2 of the 4 HDMI inputs. Also, if you plan on upgrading to speakers that require more power just get the receiver with the preamp capability. Last edited by MeyekulBayrd; 01-07-2009 at 11:00 AM. |

You may want to consider the Denon AVR-789 instead of the AVR-1909 in your comparisons. The only difference is a port for a second remote I think. Would be cheaper for basically the same receiver...

Bang for the buck? Without question - bang for the buck ... today it would be (drumroll please) the Pioneer VSX-1018 AH-K and the Yamaha RX-V663! You can get the Pioneer shipped for 445.00 from here http://powersellernyc.com/product/vi...ver-22480.html Dollar per dollar no other receiver has as many features as this one, but for the buck and bang you can get the Yamaha for 343.00 from here http://www.dbuys.com/product/?51510&...32710559&sk1=1 It's only drawback is the fact that it only has 2 HDMI inputs (you can add an inexpensive HDMI box and add more inputs) but other than that - these two give you the most bang for the buck! I would place the Onkyo 606 right behind these two. The Onkyo has 3 HDMI ins but - the other two have so many more features - plus they have Preouts. If the Onkyo had preouts I would place it with the other two.
