Brett Ratner Promises 'Hard R' Beverly Hills Cop Reboot
I just don't get this guy. Want a laugh? Check it out:
Quote:
Last year we sadly learned that Brett Ratner would be bringing us another Beverly Hills Cop reboot with Eddie Murphy. I've been neglecting to mention this project as much as I can just because I really don't want it to ever see the light of day. But alas, it'll probably get a greenlight soon enough, and it'll probably make a lot of money at the box office. Regarding the whole thing, MTV talked with Ratner recently and got some updates on where it's heading - including that it'll be "hard R" and that instead of Beverly Hills Cop 4, it'll just be called Beverly Hills Cop (or something like that), meaning it's a reboot more than anything.
This is starting to sound like that new Fast & Furious. "It's a reinvention," Ratner told MTV. "I'm going to reintroduce it to a contemporary audience. I'm going to take the best of the first two films and put it into the new one." I really don't think a franchise that started in 1984 needs to be re-imagined for contemporary audiences, especially a franchise that died off in 1994 will a really bad sequel anyway. I have nothing further to say about this Beverly Hills Cop reboot, except that I really hope it doesn't happen. Thankfully Ratner just signed on to do Youngblood and as long as that keeps him occupied instead, I'll be happy.
Here's a finishing quote from Ratner that should disgust anyone who appreciates good movies. "Eddie Murphy to me was what Chris Tucker is to 12 and 13 year olds today. I would never do another buddy cop movie, but to do Beverly Hills Cop is a dream for me. Eddie is a genius."
