Default Fans

I was thinking about picking up a small fan to stick inside my enclosed entertainment center to help cool my Onkyo receiver. I was wondering if those of you that have fans could post pictures of how to install them, where you installed them, and maybe a link to where you purchased yours. Any help is appreciated.

Check out the fan kits from Coolerguys.com

They make 1, 2 and 3 fan kits in various sizes. They come with a mounting plate, power adapter and temperature controller.

This is the kit I have:

A pic of it installed in my media cabinet:

The other fan is located on the other side of that center divider.

It has greatly reduced the temps on both sides.

Do they simply plug into an outlet like on your power strip? Also, how loud are they and can you turn them on and off?

They are DC fans, but come with an AC to DC power converter. So yes, it will plug directly into your power strip/wall outlet.

They are incredibly quiet so no worries there.

You can't turn them on/off unless you unplug them, but you really don't need to. The kit comes with a thermostatically controlled switch that automatically turns them on when the temperature goes up. They then shut off when the temp. falls back down.

Don't buy fans smaller than 120mm.. they get higher in pitch as they get smaller. If not louder, most definitely more annoying.

Here's a pseudo-DIY from my website on my fan mod: {LINK}. Enjoy the "Tribute" snippet.

The fans and power supply are things that my company uses for the systems we manufacture, so they were free for me. Also, they look a little bit different from the ones DavidAg02 posted, but conceptually it is the exact same thing as far as functionality and how one installs them.

Actually, I suppose it's slightly different, as I installed a manual on/off switch...but yeah...pretty much the same.

This is the one I have. It's plugged into the back of my Onkyo receiver and it turns on when I turn the receiver on.

Is it loud? I don't know, I really don't think so and I could care less, my center speaker covers any sound that may come from it.

Take a look at my gallery and you can get a glimpse of it resting on top of the receiver. There is plenty of breathing room for the receiver, but I bought the fan because I wanted to play it safe.
