Arrow Marvel sued for $750 million over movies

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — Shareholders of an ill-fated Stan Lee venture are seeking more than $750 million in profits from films based on Marvel comic characters such as "Spider-Man," "X-Men" and "Iron Man."

The lawsuit was filed Monday in a Manhattan federal court on behalf of four shareholders of Stan Lee Media, Inc. Defendants include Lee, his wife, New York-based Marvel Entertainment, Inc., and former Marvel CEO Avi Arad.

The lawsuit claims profits from Lee's comic creations belong to the company, which emerged from bankruptcy in 2006. The suit claims Lee and others ignored the company and shareholder's interests.

Lee could not immediately be reached for comment. Marvel said through a spokesman that the lawsuit is filled with "ridiculous claims."
It's the year for suing studios over comic book movies.

Why? Stan Lee doesn't really have anything to do with the company suing.

The company's lawsuit is complete bollocks. They've tried once before to go after Marvel for ownership rights to all the characters that Stan created, even though he retains no ownership. They basically got laughed at.

I have considerably less computer time lately. I'm down to an hour (two if I'm lucky). You've always done a great job bringing good stuff to the threads.

From Wiki:

On March 15, 2007, Stan Lee Media's new President Jim Nesfield filed a lawsuit against Marvel Entertainment for $5 billion, claiming that the company is co-owner of the characters that Lee created for Marvel.

On June 9, 2007, Stan Lee Media sued Stan Lee, his newer company, POW Entertainment, subsidiary QED Entertainment, and other former Stan Lee Media staff at POW.

That was what they were up to in 2007. They're just greedy mongers. Nothing more.

DUH! Sorry, I reread the article and see now the Lee is the 'defendent', not the plaintif. For some reason, I thought he and his wife were the ones suing. Been a long day....

It seems once someone makes money, others have to sue. I always like when they wait five to ten years down the line to sue. Pathetic...

There just needs to be a law when you sue somebody frivolously and lose, you owe them the amount that you were suing for. This should prevent a lot of utter nonsense lawsuits.

Or just allow the person who you were suing to throw hot coffee in your face {failing that a tazer shot to the face would suffice}.
