Default My modest home theater

As a graduate with just a part-time job, I haven't got the money (or space) for an elaborate home theater set-up. However, over the years I've saved up a few quid to invest in one and now I finally have my own room I've begun developing it!

I currently have a Panasonic TX-42G20B plasma (which I love) connected to an Onkyo HTX22HDX 2.1 system. When I get my own place I might invest in a better system, but for now this is perfect for me and I will be buying the add-on to make it a full 5.1. in the very near future.

Connected to it is a PS3, XBox 360, Wii, Gamecube and N64, and I'm looking to squeeze a slim PS2 in soon as well. Yes, I have a surge protector!

It's not the biggest or best sounding theater avaliable, but it's mine and I love it!

The set-up:

The consoles:

The view from my bed (with lights on)

And some wire management! I've got a set of wardrobes all attached together going completely down one side of my room, so figured this would be a good place to hide the cable for the rear speakers!

Go in one end of the wardrobe (at the closest end to the receiver):

The cable sits in the gap between the floor and the base of the wardrobe (a space about 2 inches high) - this is one with the base lifted off:

Then out the other end:

All nice and hidden!

Thumbs up

That looks great & if it works for YOU, that's all that matters. Like you said, When you can, you'll upgrade, don't fight it, it's inevitable.

Til' then, enjoy what you have - If it sounds enjoyable & looks great, then you're all set.

For now...

Hey nice setup! I can relate to you in the space and $ side of things. I'm still in school, almost graduated, and it's been a lot of saving and planning my purchases over the years. After lots of bargain hunting and patience, it eventually comes together!

Nice setup!

Welcome. You have a very clean and nice looking setup. I really like the white stand. It makes the TV pop. Great job. Continue with BR.com and you will be spending soon tho.

I've spent enough time spending with the BR discs - now time to make them look/sound good!

I've kind of put off watching a lot of them up until I had a good TV/sound system in place, and now it's coming together I can start to get stuck in

that's when you know you have a "problem".

there are meetings you can go to, but all that ever happens is you wind up trading somebody for some better equipment or just blowing all the money you have saved on one single piece of equipment.

but that's not a bad thing. at least, that's what i keep telling myself.

i had a 3.1 system for years. never hooked up my rear speakers. a few weeks ago, i finally got a full 5.1 system with all new speakers and sub. so now i'm officially 5.1 with hopes of going 7.1 in a few weeks ($ issues for me, as well). so i'm right there with ya on that aspect.

but anyway.....

congrats on the system. you like it, so it's all good. and nice job on finding a way to hide the wires. very creative.

I can definitely vouch for upgraditis. Started with a Westinghouse 32" 720p w/ Logitech PC Surrounds, slowly went HTIB, then switched to another budget Tv, then a pieced together AVR/Polk speaker setup, then a new TV, and now custom built speakers and new AVR . (Also between there is 2 new Pc builds/upgrades lol)

Major disease that upgraditis.

And presenting the 'media cupboard':

Top shelf: Slipcovers/PS2 games/Gamecube games
2nd shelf: Blu-Rays
3rd shelf: Blu-Rays/steelbooks
4th shelf: Boxsets/controllers
5th shelf: XBox 360/PS3/Gamecube/Wii/N64 games
6th shelf: DVDs (3 rows deep)
7th shelf: DVDs (2 rows deep)

I'll probably post a close-up of the Blu-Rays when my girlfriend has given me some of my Disney ones back
