Arrow Billy Bob Thornton almost Tony Stark

Just thought it was a fun tidbit. Thornton was in talks for Tony Stark before Downey Jr ended up with the role. He was also in talks to play the Goblin in the first Spider-man. Could you imagine him in either of these roles? My bet is he'll show up in a marvel movie sooner rather than later. The question is which one?

Quote:
Billy Bob Thornton spoke to MTV News, revealing that at one point he was approached to play the role of Tony Stark in last year's "Iron Man." For whatever reason, Thornton was replaced with Robert Downey Jr and the rest is history.

"They talked to me about 'Iron Man' for just a minute — just for a minute," said Thornton, explaining why he was considered. "Iron Man wasn't a superhero type, really. [When he was] inside the suit he was."

Having watched "Iron Man," Thornton admits that Downey did a fantastic job as Stark/Iron Man, but he feel that he could have been pretty decent himself. "I could've done it," said Thornton.

This isn't the first time that Thornton was offered a role in a superhero film. He was previously set to play the Green Goblin in the first "Spider-Man" movie.

Do you think Thornton would have been a good Tony Stark/Iron Man?

If they would have used him as Tony Stark then Iron Man would have tanked big time.

I can see why they considered him, he definitely fits the drunk/alcoholic persona which is what Tony Stark from the comic was. Maybe that's where they were going with the character initially. But the comparison ends there. He's definitely too old for the role.

Tony Stark needs not muscle. Might as well accuse him of not being right for the part because he can't fly.

He is definitely too old though. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Marvel picture, but he is too old to play any key characters that come to mind for me right now.

Thank goodness he didn't get either of these parts. He would have been horrible. Maybe he could be Dum Dum Dugan in the Avengers movie (Fury's sidekick?). Don't know of many white trashy characters from the Marvel universe he could play.
