Does anyone know what does the re-eq function does if I turn it on or off? If someone could answer me I will be extremly thankful.

from page 75 of the manual. you can download it off of the onkyo site

Quote:
With the Re-EQ function, you can compensate a
soundtrack whose high-frequency content is too harsh,
making it more suitable for home theater viewing.
This function can be used with the following listening
modes: Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro
Logic II Movie, Dolby Pro Logic IIx Movie, DTS,
DTS-ES, DTS Neo:6 Cinema, DTS 96/24, THX Cinema,
THX Surround EX, THX Select2 Cinema, and
Multichannel

Per the folks at THX movies are mixed with the upper frequencies too high. If you use the THX modes it will roll off the high frequencies to more closely match a movie theatre. Re-EQ turns off this roll off.

I am not sure I buy into this need to roll off thing. Seems like every room, not to mention every pair of ears will be doing there own rolling off or whatever. One reason I do not use THX processing or any other post processing for that matter.

Unless the sound is too harsh or bright for you, I'd recommend to leave it off to be as close to the intent of the soundtrack as possible.

that makes sense.

funny that when i was doing the audyssey the volumes were too low

i thought the volume dial @ 0.0db would be too loud

but now it all makes sense.

i like to have the volume @ -15db or so to watch tv/movies to that i have "extra power" if need be

but 0.0db = where it should be (my volume goes up to +18)

ill fix all of this when i get home tonight
