Default Biggest Best Picture Upset?

The options in the poll are what is said to be the biggest best picture upset's of all time. Sorry if I missed some of the older ones. I'm just not as familiar with that time.

I went with 'Forrest Gump' over 'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'Pulp Fiction'. I'm actually a pretty big fan of 'Forrest Gump', but 'Shawshank' and 'Pulp Fiction' are two of my favorite movies of all time.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot one of the biggest ones of all: 'Shakespeare in Love' over 'Saving Private Ryan'. Looks like the "other" category will get some love.

Okay, I wanna see hands:
Has anybody....ANYBODY....EVER....watched "A Beautiful Mind" in the last ten years?
Cable, disk, airline flight, anything?

(And The Artist might not have been "unexpected" or "an upset" over Hugo for 2011, but if you're talking "unjust" or "wrench in the voting gears", it needs a place on the list.)

Hurt Locker was great but nowhere near as good as Inglorious Basterds

Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan (like wtf?)

Titanic over LA Confidential

King's Speech over The Social Network (it was good, TSN was a near perfect film)

Definitely shakespeare in love over saving private ryan. Shakespeare waw a very good movie, but I don't think it was anywhere on the same level as ryan.

Of those you have listed, '41, '76, '80, '81, '94 and '02 are the most egregious.

Forrest Gump and Crash are the only BP winners on there that I actively dislike so I'd pick one of those.

My bias opinion forced my vote, Dances With Wolves over my favorite film of all time, GoodFellas. But hey, at least Ghost didn't win.

This is the big one for me. I made a bet with my then-girlfriend that Ryan was going to win Best Picture and if it lost to Shakespeare, I had to go with her to the theatre to see Shakespeare so she could earn extra credit in her English class. Ryan was supposed to be a sure thing that year. Oh how pissed off and wrong I was.

Both Avatar and Inglourious Basterds are waaay better than The Hurt Locker. THL is good, but it's not a fantastic story (like IB) or a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle (like Avatar).

but Avatar was nothing even CLOSE to a best picture winner. it had shiny visuals was like a ride, but it's plot was this close to being as thin as a chinese wafer cookie. no substance to it, which is what best pictures are usually very heavily weighted on
