PS3 2008 Worldwide Shipped Numbers - Blu-ray Forum

PS3 worldwide shipped numbers are 10.77 million. The competition shipped 10.8 million in the same time period. I guess it's best to wait for final numbers before getting carried away with the press rambling the usually doom and gloom about the PS3.

I doubt it, but it would heavily depend on a price cut and additional launched services. The game line up is already there.

The PS3 CAN'T catch the xbox with their current strategy.

PS3+PS2 (NEW AND SHIPPED) about 7m.

Now sure price is a point for some, but if they would ADD BC to the PS3 then SOME of those people would go ahead and make the step up. If you look at the numbers every quarter Sony has a better market share it's just split between the two systems.

We know the ps3 cant catch 360 with the current strategy, thats why i said only if it drops to $299 then its game time. yea everybody wants BC to, but theres alot of people who just want the price to drop.

Even with out a price drop, yea the 360 will keep outselling it, but i think the gap will continue to be close.

I don't think you factored in the huge price difference between the PS2 and the PS3. Lack of b/c usually wouldn't make people decide to pick up a PS2 instead of a PS3.

I wonder how many years the PS3 will be on the market beyond the X360?

You think MS is going to drop the 360 after the next system comes out? i dont think so this time around. still i dont think they will support it as long as sony is going to support the ps3.

As for BC, yea its in high demad, but like i said people just want the price to drop. i dont think people are look at a $299 ps3 and say, im not buying it cause i cant play my ps2 games.

I'm actually surprised that no one has developed a mod to allow people to play PS2 games yet considering how easy it is to open your PS3. Remember how many mods there were for the PS2?

PS3 figures are correct. 21.3M sold as of December 31, 2008. 4.46M Oct - Dec, which is less than 2007's Q3 figures.

How much did Sony forecast for Fiscal Year ending March 2009? Wasn't it 11M? I can't find that PR, but they are well on their way to reach those numbers. Q4 numbers should be interesting.

Hopefully that means the price cut will take place the quarter before and the final numbers will reflect in those months.

10m consoles shipped for the Y/E March 31st 2009. Currently they have 8.45m shipped, so another 1.45m in the current Q and they will have hit their target. What we need to see is how much Sony have stuffed the channel, if they have this Q's shipment will be 500k or less, but if (as I suspect) they haven't then they will be around 1.5-2m like a normal non holiday Q.

According to Aaron Greenburg PS3 sales could double and 360s could stay the same and Sony wouldn't catch up till 2014.

Take that with a grain of salt.

I think this financial quarter for SCE will be a strong one, despite the fall by 440,000 units in Q3 (in comparison to Q3 FY08), there should be a raise in sales as opposed to previous quaters. My guess is 2.5M+ sell-through towards March 31.
